imageThere will be a memorial graveside service with full military honors for George J. Karcanes, 85, who passed away on March 28, 2011 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The service will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 2 p.m. in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover with Rev. Sean DiMaria of Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover, officiating.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.

Knoxville, TN

George Karcanes passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at age 85 in Knoxville, Tennessee. George was born December 25, 1925 in Andover, NY. He is preceded in death by Ruth L. Karcanes Dec. 4, 1987 and Mary Murray Dec. 8, 2000. George served 2 ½ years in the Navy during World War II. He was an active member of the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his six children, John Karcanes (Linda) of Texas, James Karcanes (Linda) of North Carolina, Debbie Karcanes of Colorado, Amy Karcanes of New York, Katie Syracuse (Mark) of Arizona, Chris Karcanes of Arizona. He has seven grandchildren Kelly, Jim, Kim, Kristie, Shelly, Jason and Justin and four great grandchildren, Korie, Laurel, Tristan and Sophie; nephew John Hames, nieces Penny Habibi and Nancy Monroe; great nephews Jason Hames, Scott Hames and Jamal Habibi.

George retired in June of 1987 from Aronson Machine Company after over 30 years of employment.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 31 in Knoxville, Tennessee and another celebration will be scheduled in Arcade and Andover, New York in May.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ben Atchley Veterans Home for their compassionate and loving care.
