Roger A. Goudy

image:to be addedRoger A. Gowdy, 71, passed away on Tuesday (Jan. 17, 2012) at Highland Healthcare Center.

Mr. Gowdy was born on May 29, 1940 in Wellsville to Lawrence H. and Elonora (Brandes) Gowdy. He was a 1958 graduate of Belmont Central School.

Roger worked for Macler Industries in Friendship from 1966-1986. Later, he worked as a janitor for Genesee Valley Central School in Belmont until his retirement in 2005.

Roger is survived by his lifelong companion, Verna Beth Ritter; three sons, Daniel (Kathy) Gowdy of Ottawa, Kan., Christopher W. Gowdy of Corning and Micah (Cindy) Swick of Hastings; two daughters, Charlotte (Malcolm) Gowdy of Avon and Tina M. (Matthew) Ritter of Belmont; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Lawrence Gowdy and Roswell Gowdy.
Roger was an avid hunter and model car builder.

Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville where the funeral will take place at 3 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. 1/26/12 - To Roger’s family,I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I have some good memories of Roger from my days growing up in Belmont. We shared a few meals together (I think it was barbequed rabbit) and spent some time just hanging out talking. I hope you’re doing OK, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, ~ Mike Rice
