Norma L. Gavin

June 28, 1928 - May 15, 2011

imageNorma L. Steadman Lewis Gavin, 82, passed away Sunday (May 15, 2011) at Highland Healthcare Center surrounded by family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Mrs. Gavin was born on June 28, 1928 in Andover to Gordon and Charlotte (Thompson) Steadman. She was a 1946 graduate of Andover Central School. On Oct. 18, 1947, she married Charles Francis Lewis, who predeceased her on May 12, 1958. On Aug. 1, 1959, she married Francis Leo Gavin, who predeceased her on Dec. 19, 2003.

Norma worked as a postal clerk in Andover for the United States Postal Service from 1966 until her retirement in 1984. She was also a bus driver for Andover Central School. Previously, she worked for several Andover businesses.

Norma is survived by two daughters, Connie Lewis Beckman of Belmont and Sharon (Alan) Lewis Green of Andover; a sister, Marian Francis Steadman Tidd of Andover; four grandchildren, Randy (Tracy) Beckman, Jr. of Scio, Matthew (Molly) Green and Chad (Clarissa) Green, both of Andover and Shelly (Bryan) Snyder of Almond; ten great-grandchildren, Hunter Beckman, Evan Green, Genevieve Green, Tyler Green, Joey Bryan, Madison Bryan, Ethan Bryan, Rylie Bryan, Bailee Snyder and Colt Snyder; a special family member, Francis Leo Joyce; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to both of her husbands, she was predeceased by a son, Charles Gordon Lewis; a son-in-law, Randy Beckman, Sr.; a brother, Richard Steadman; and a great-grandson, Wyatt Snyder.

Norma was an avid Elvis fan, a country music lover and enjoyed spending time in the sun with her family.

Family and friends will celebrate her life at a private graveside ceremony at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover at the convenience of the family.
