Robert E. “Bob” Black, 73, died at home on Monday (Dec. 14, 2020) after battling cancer for five weeks.
Mr. Black was born on Nov. 15, 1947 in Wellsville to Robert L. and Grace M. (Smith) Black. He was a 1966 graduate of Scio Central School and later served in the United States Army from 1967-1970 with a tour in Germany. After his army tour, he started working at Big N in Hornell where he met Joanne M. Criss. They were married a year later in St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Oct. 14, 1972. They settled in Andover shortly thereafter, much to Bob’s surprise since Scio and Andover were such rivals in sports.
Bob worked as an inspector at Dresser-Rand Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 2013.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Bob is survived by two sons, Jason (Becky) Black of Manchester and Andrew Black of Andover; two brothers-in-law, Robert Frost of Dundee and James (Tammy) Criss of Arkport; a sister-in-law, Linda (Thomas) Harding of Webster; three grandchildren, Olivia Black, Sydney Black and Landon Black; his dear friend and co-worker at Dresser for many years, Bob Shelly; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Roberta Frost; two brothers, David Black and Daniel “Danny” Black; a baby sister, Madelene Black; and his precious grandson, Emerson Robert Black at six weeks.
Bob was very involved in community activities. He served on the Andover 4th of July and Andover Haunted House Committee’s for 25 years. He also served on the Andover Central School Board for four years and attended many marching band events.
Bob was an active member of Andover Historical Society and Andover Golden Agers. He played Santa’s Helper for over 40 years but as “Poppy” to his beloved grandchildren, some things must remain a secret. He was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Choir and Andover Ecumenical Choir.
As a patriotic American, on September 11th, Bob, along with his son, Andrew and his grandnephew, Brandon Brown, placed an American flag at every residence in Andover. He truly became Andover’s adopted native son. Additionally, Bob was an avid Buffalo Bill’s and Sabre’s fan and actively rooted for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no visitation at this time. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a date to be announced. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Andover. Myron’s life was marked by his love for the Lord.

Myron G. Zimmerman, 84, formerly of Tonawanda, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday (Aug. 22, 2015) at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Zimmerman was born on Feb. 27, 1931 in North Tonawanda to Myron D. and Elsie (Krupp) Zimmerman. He was a 1951 graduate of Kenmore West High School and later served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. On May 7, 1955, at the Kenmore Presbyterian Church, he married Mary P. Reeser, who survives.
Myron worked as a cabinet maker; working out of the Buffalo Carpenters District Union #276 in Buffalo for 40 years, until his retirement in 1989.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Myron is survived by three sons, Myron R. (Diane) Zimmerman of Lake Wales, Fla., Mark K. (Susan) Zimmerman of Scio and Dale A. (Vicki) Zimmerman of Lockport; one daughter, Sandara L. (Paul) Rog of Webster, Fla.; one sister, Carol Zarbo of Kenmore; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, Roger Zimmerman.
Myron’s life was marked by his love for the Lord. As a born again Christian, everything he did and said reflected that relationship he had with Christ. He enjoyed working with his hands and perfecting the craft of woodworking and cabinetry. Myron was especially fond of watching cowboy and western movies. Additionally, he was an avid trap and skeet shooter which fit nicely with his love for hunting and enjoyment of the outdoors. Myron was a life member of the Tonawanda Sportsmen’s Club and was also a member of the Friendship American Legion.
There will be no prior visitation. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregory B. DeSalvatore, officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, full military honors will be rendered. Burial at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Tonawanda will be at the convenience of the family.

Diane K. Young, 62, passed away Friday (Oct. 26, 2018) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Young was born on July 23, 1956 in Niagara Falls to Homer and Winifred (Shurr) Houck. She was a 1974 graduate of La Salle Senior High School in Niagara Falls. On June 28, 1997 she married Dave L. Young, who survives.
Diane worked for Allegany Arc in Wellsville for 29 years. She most recently held the position of Community Services On-site Facilitator until her retirement in August of 2018 due to health concerns.
In addition to her husband of 21 years, Diane is survived by one brother, Mark (Jean) Houck of Rochester; an “adopted son” Dan (Megan) Stanton of Wellsville; an “adopted grandson” Ryker Stanton of Wellsville; one sister-in-law, Nancy (Gary) Harris of Pine Hurst, N.C.; four nieces and nephews, Josh Houck, Anna Houck, Jordan Harris and Alexa Harris; and her large extended family of co-workers at Allegany Arc.
Diane was an avid crafter. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting baby blankets and booties to give as love gifts for the many babies she encountered in her large circle of friends. She enjoyed going to craft shows as a favorite pastime as well as getting new ideas for her own creative gift ideas. Diane had a large collection of dolls that she proudly displayed throughout her home. Additionally, she was a lifetime lover of animals, especially dogs.
In her younger days, Diane and her husband enjoyed camping together. Some of their favorite memories were the times spent in Ogdensburg and 1000 Islands fishing, boating and touring the Eisenhower Lock at Massena on the Saint Lawrence Seaway. In the words of her husband, Diane was “wise beyond her years” and “she made me a better person”. As a further tribute, Dave affectionately called his wife “the sweetest person he knew”.
To sum up Diane’s life, she had the heart of a caregiver, both at work and at home.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor. Elva Cornell of the Allentown United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio.

Mr. Young was born on June 29, 1960 in Wellsville to Douglas V. and Roberta J. (Walker) Young. He was a 1979 graduate of Scio Central School. On June 28, 1997 he married Diane K. Houck who preceded him in death on October 26, 2018.
David worked as a senior mechanic for ARC of Allegany County in Wellsville for 15 years, retiring in 2018. He also drove school bus for Wellsville Central School both before and after working for ARC.
Dave is survived by his sister, Nancy L. (Gary) Harris of Pinehurst, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Mark (Jean) Houck of Rochester; an aunt, Elizabeth Walker of Wellsville; nieces and nephews, Jordan M. Harris, Alexa N. Harris, Anna Houck, and Josh Houck; and several cousins.
He loved to camp and especially enjoyed Cowanesque Lake, the Hudson Valley region, Ogdensburg and 1000 Islands. His favorite memories included boating and touring various locations on the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
Dave was a very kind person, always willing to help those who were in need. He was sensitive and thoughtful to those around him. He had a unique ability to choose the most suitable gifts for those he loved.

Pauline M. Gath (Croyle) Yorton passed away Friday (Aug. 31, 2018) at the age of 103 at the home of her grandson Steven VanVooren and his wife Lanny where she resided in St. Augustine Fla.
Pauline was born on June 28, 1915 in Cheektowaga to Ora and Charles Gath. The Gath family settled in Andover, on Chestnut Street where they raised their seven children.
Pauline is survived by her daughter Laura (Croyle) VanVooren who lived with her in St. Petersburg and St. Augustine Florida; two grandsons, Steven VanVooren and wife Lanny and Arthur Berard and wife Janet; 4 great grandchildren, Kayla Mandeville and husband David, Derek Berard and wife Sarah, Jesse Bertolof, and Amber Bertolof Seal and husband Pat; one great great grandson Tyler James Berard, age 3; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Ora and Charles Gath; her first husband John Croyle and her second husband Clyde Yorton; six brothers, Lawrence Gath, George Gath, Walter Gath, Howard Gath, Kenneth Gath, and Charles Gath; and a granddaughter Janet VanVooren Berard.
Pauline was active in the United Methodist Church in Andover playing the organ at church services until retiring to Florida. She continued playing for church services in Florida for many years. Pauline also played piano for the Minstrel Shows that performed for many years in Andover. She maintained an active life working at Alfred University in Alfred as well as in Florida until the age of 102. You would often see her riding her bike to work.
A graveside service for the burial of her ashes will be at Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover in the spring of 2019. Local arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.

Donna L. York, 50, passed away peacefully Sunday (May 1, 2016) at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She never gave up the fight.
Donna was born on Sept. 19, 1965 in Houston, Tex. to Albert and Sandra (Longworth) Murray. She was a 1983 graduate of Nimitz High School in Houston.
She worked in administration at Alstom Preheater from 1987 until the present.
In addition to her father, Albert Murray of Middleburg, Fla., Donna is survived by her fiancé, LeRoy McGhee of Wellsville, whom she planned to marry as soon as her health would allow; a daughter, Crystal (Bill) Ferguson of Wellsville; two sons, Kyle York of Wellsville and Kurtis York of Philadelphia, Pa.; two step-daughters, Mandy (Jody Spotts) York of Wellsville and Mariah (Kyle) Vaughn of Bolivar; a step-son, Kash McGhee of Olean; four sisters, Lori (Sal Salvaggio) Rhein of Mastic Beach, Michelle (Tim) Foley of Spring, Tex., Amanda Webb of Jacksonville, Fla. and Anna Locascio of Ocala, Fla.; and three brothers, Daniel (Kathy) Longworth of Dothan, Ala., Michael South and Rick South, both of Fla.
Additionally, she is survived by her aunt and uncle, Donna and Gary Brown of Andover; three sisters-in-law, Deb (Ward) Votava of Hammondsport, Cindy (John) Flint of Almond and Sue (Steve) Gronski of Horseheads; five grandchildren, Tera Harrison, Michael Ferguson, Sandra Ferguson and Ezra Ferguson, all of Wellsville and Hollis Vaughn of Bolivar; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her mother, Sandra Longworth, she was predeceased by Michael York, the father of her children.
Donna devoted her life to taking care of people. Whether it was neighborhood children or her children’s friends, she “adopted” them as her own. In the words of her family, she was “the most selfless person ever”. At times she was outspoken with her motherly advice, saying what needed to be said. She loved her family dearly and strove to set the bar high.
“Flowers” as her closest friends called her, loved her flower and vegetable gardens; Iris’ being her favorite. As “Mama”, she was the football queen and family chauffeur, transporting and supporting all her children’s many activities. Donna loved to cook. She was famous for potato breakfast on Christmas and her “It Won’t Last Long” cake. Some of her children’s favorite memories are the family camping/fishing trips.
Donna was a past member of the Wellsville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and the Wellsville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
There will be a time of visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Andover Fire Hall.

Clara was born on March 17, 1928 to Gerald and Flossie Irene (Harding) Hann. She was a 1945 graduate of Andover Central School. On August 17, 1946 she married Douglas C. York, who predeceased her on February 28, 2004.
Mrs. York worked at the Market Basket in Andover from 1958-1967. She then worked as a teller at the Andover branch of Key Bank from 1967 until her retirement in 1992. Clara was also a contributing writer for the Alfred Sun where her articles appeared in the “Andover the Hill” column.
Clara is survived by three sons, Jack York of Rochester, Roger (Paula) York of Andover and Tommy (Valencia) York of Charlotte NC; a daughter Jean Orth of Cheektowaga; two brothers, Francis Hann of Wellsville and Howard (Georgiana) Hann of Birdsell; 21 Grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Hann and Warren C. Hann.
Clara enjoyed quilting. She was particularly talented at writing and she published several short stories. Her children honor her dedication to them as a working mom, and her devotion to caring for her husband, who endured blindness, for twenty-five years.
She was a member of the Andover Chamber of Commerce and served the community on the Andover Library Board. Clara was very active in the Andover Presbyterian Church, offering her gift of music as an organist for forty years, and serving as a Sunday School teacher, elder, trustee, and as a member of the United Presbyterian Women’s Group. She was also a member of the Christian Business Women’s Club.
Friends may call Saturday, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 with Clara’s grandson, Jason York, officiating. A private burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Andover at the convenience of the family.

Janice G. “Jan” Woythal, 80, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 28, 2018) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Woythal was born on Dec. 22, 1937 in Syracuse to Henry and Virginia (Waldt) Latimer. She was a 1956 graduate of Marcellus Central School and later earned her Registered Nursing license from Highland Hospital in Rochester. On Aug. 22, 1959, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Marcellus, she married Frank M. Woythal, who survives.
Janice began her nursing career in 1959 and spent the final 25 years at Andover Medical Center in Andover before retiring in 1993.
In addition to her husband of 59 years Jan is survived by a son, Mark (Pam) Woythal of Duanesburg; two daughters, Karen (Gary) MacFarquhar of Evergreen, Colo. and Sue (John) Liebe of Brockport; a sister, Barbara (Bernard) Bleskoski of Rochester; two brothers, William Latimer of Marcellus and Robert (Laurie) Higgins of Winding Path; four grandchildren, Dylan Woythal of Schenectady, Andrew Woythal of Duanesburg, Douglas Liebe of Blacksburg, Va. and Brian Liebe of Brockport.
Jan loved to travel. In the earlier years, the family vacations took them to all 50 states and the entire country of Canada from coast to coast. In 1999, their travels took on a different purpose when they joined Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners. Over the next 13 years, she and her husband helped build nearly 100 homes in 16 states and Canada and have met some of the finest people along the way including Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Because they lived by the motto “Those Who Rest Will Rust”, they maintained this pattern until they were 75 and 80 respectively.
Jan was an avid gardener. One of her favorite spots to visit was the famous Butchart Gardens in British Columbia. She loved the solitude of her own flower garden at home and spent many hours tending to her passion. Another favorite pastime, which she shared with her husband, was birdwatching. Together, they have catalogued over 400 life birds in 49 states.
Jan and her husband Frank were truly joined at the hip. She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren and loved them dearly. On the wall above their bed is a saying that reads “Just one lifetime won’t be enough for us”. A beautiful summation of how they cared for each other.
There will be no prior visitation. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Jody D. Wood, 54, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2017) at home surrounded by loving family following a brief illness.
Jody was born on April 15, 1963 in Elmira to Arlene M. Thomas. As a single mom, Arlene’s mother, Estelle Thomas stepped in and together they provided a loving home in which to grow up. Jody was a 1981 graduate of Corning East High School.
Jody worked as a secretary for the Wellsville Daily Reporter from 2002 until 2012. She then took a position with Northern Lights in Wellsville, doing secretarial and production work through the present. She had previously worked at Alfred University as a custodian.
In addition to her mother and step father, Arlene Thomas-Leonard and Ray Leonard of Newark Valley, Jody is survived by a daughter, Danielle (Aaron) Marsh of Wellsville; one brother, Jeff (Debbie) Thomas of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; her Aunt Dot Thomas of Campbell; her Aunt June Field of Andover; and her Aunt Iva Thomas of Bath.
Additionally she is survived by three grandchildren, Brooke Marsh, Laurynn Flamini and Avery Marsh; two nieces, Michelle Thomas and Crystal Buckland, both of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; four grand-nieces and grand-nephews Hailey Thomas, Dominik Gridley, Jenna Buckland and Deejay Buckland; her former husband and father of their daughter, Daniel (Lori) Wood of Ulysses, Pa.; a special friend, Kevin Kaczmarek of Lancaster; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Estelle and Chester Thomas; and her Aunt and Uncle Betty (Vince) Gaskey, Aunt and Uncle Irene (Jack) Walker; Uncle and Aunt John (Friedel) Thomas, Uncle and Aunt Charles (Juanita) Thomas, Uncle James Field, and Uncle Bruce Thomas.
Jody had many loves. She loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved tending to her home, taking care of her plants and cats. She loved reading, crafting and the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also loved the solitude of nature and enjoyed feeding the local birds. Jody was an avid music enthusiast. A special memory for her and her mother was the long weekend they spent in Canada attending an Elvis Festival.
Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A private memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the convenience of the family.

Nan Irene (Girts) Wonderling, age 93, of Osgood, Ind. passed away, early Friday (Feb. 14) with the comfort of her son, Buzz, and daughter-in-law, Josie. Nan was born on July 22, 1926 the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Mathers) Girts in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Nan grew up around Summerville, Pa. along with her brother and sisters. She attended and graduated from the Summerville school system. Nan worked in the data entry department for Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She met and married Harold James Wonderling and they were blessed two sons Buzz and James.
Upon her retirement she moved to Indiana to be closer to her son Buzz and his wife Josie.
Nan is survived by sons Buzz (Josie) Wonderling of Connersville, Ind. and James B. Wonderling of Dahlonega, Ga., sister Phyllis Chestnut of N.Y., grandchildren Sara Wonderling of N.Y., Stacey (Tavis) Ganoung of N.Y., Sheila Flanigan of Osgood, Ind., Bill (Tonya) Flanigan of Connersville, Ind. and Brian (Heather) Flanigan of Connersville, Ind., along with 9 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Ronald Girts, and sister Shirley.

Mary Jo Wolcott, 63, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Thursday (June 4, 2015) at Wellsville Manor Care Center, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.
Mary Jo was born on March 28, 1952 in Lancaster to John N. and Isabell B. (Phalen) Wolcott. She was a 1971 graduate of Lancaster High School.
After moving to the Andover area, she worked for Current Controls, Inc. in Wellsville for many years.
Mary Jo is survived by two brothers, Matthew (Beth) Wolcott of Wellsville and John (Gail) Wolcott of Scio; two sisters, Sally (Bruce) McNaughton of Andover and Catherine (David) Wahl of Scio; five nephews, Steven (Vikki) Wolcott, Micah (Kim) Wolcott, Jason (Jennifer) McNaughton, Jeremy McNaughton, Adam (Tammy) Blouvet; and four nieces, Mindy (Jimmy) Muench, Jackie (Robert) Stillson, Christina McFall and Danielle Wahl.
Mary Jo loved sewing and making crafts and giving them to friends and family, especially on holidays and birthdays. During her long struggle with cancer, she came to know Jesus as her personal savior.
Friends are invited for a time of visitation Sunday (June 7) from 4-6 p.m. and Monday from Noon-2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Daniel Kenyon of the Wellsville Bible Church, officiating. A private burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover at the convenience of the family.
