ANDOVER – Brenda Leigh Tears, 63, passed away on Wednesday (January 1, 2025) at home following a lengthy illness.

Brenda was born on July 15, 1961 in Hornell to Richard and Rose (Welch) Lyke. She was a 1979 graduate of Andover Central School and later attended Alfred University.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo (Thomas) Wilson of Belmont; her mother, Rose (Harold) Perry of Alfred Station; one brother, George Perry of Andover; four grandchildren, Abigail (Zach Hadsell) McCarthy, Luke Wilson, Bradley Wilson and Pyper Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Finley Hadsell and Eden Hadsell; close friends, Terry and Pat Mann of Andover and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by an infant son, William McCarthy; one brother, Louie Perry and the father of her children, Thomas McCarthy.

Brenda had a kind heart and a willingness to help anybody in need. She loved canning and quilting. At Thanksgiving, she made Thanksgiving baskets to be given away.

There will be no prior visitation. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in Wellsville with President Dan Howe presiding at a date to be determined. Her ashes will be laid to rest beside her brother in Hillside Cemetery in Andover.
