Mary M. Cross

December 23, 1939 - February 16, 2025

ALMOND – Mary Martha Cross, 85, passed away on Sunday (February 16, 2025) at Wellsville Manor.

Mrs. Cross was born on December 23, 1939 in Olean to Ronald and Bertha Mae (Sunderlin) Kelley. She was a 1957 graduate of Hinsdale High School. Afterward, she received her Associate’s Degree at Jamestown Community College.

Mary worked for several years at Wellsville Daily Reporter in the office. She spent some time working for Buffalo News.

Mary is survived by three sons, Jonathan D. Bean of Hinsdale, Thomas (Charmaine) Bean of Cuba, and Michel John Cross of Almond; two sisters, Sherrie Barth of Arizona, and Val (Roger) Morales of Hinsdale; a brother, Wilson (Kim) Morales of Hinsdale; several grandchildren, including Victoria Cross of Almond; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Ronald Kelley, John Kelley, and Tim Kirby.

Mary was primarily content to be at home. She took great pleasure in gardening of organic vegetables. She enjoyed canning the fruits of her labors for her family. She grew up on the farm which led to a life-long love of animals and pets. She enjoyed wildlife and took delight in feeding the birds.

Bicycle riding in the neighborhood or out to Cuba Lake, or just on the backroads here and there was great fun for Mary. She spent time teaching Mike how to fish and cook. She was helpful in rearing a granddaughter, Victoria. In return, Victoria won Grandma’s heart and was always willing to help her in return.

There will be no prior visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, (February 22) at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Patrick Lyons of Gospel Fellowship Church in Belmont officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cementer in Scio. 1. Mary was not just a sister in law years ago. She was my dearest friend and almost all of my fondest memories always, always involved the two of us and all of our kids. They were poor times but so rich in love and fun. I will miss her greatly, but knowing Mary as I do, there is know doubt that she has walked through them gates of heaven with a smile on her face. Fly high Mary. ♥️🙏♥️🙏
