Michael J. Reinschmidt

June 12, 1984 - November 22, 2025

ANDOVER – Michael Joseph Reinschmidt, 41, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday (November 22, 2025).

Michael was born on June 12, 1984 in Wellsville to Joseph A. and Sarah J. “Sally” (Ritter) Reinschmidt. He was a 2003 graduate of Andover Central School.

Mike was an operating engineer for various pipeline companies in the Western states.

Mike is survived by two sons, Wyatt Reinschmidt of Crawfordville, Fla. and Matthew Reinschmidt of Spring Creek, Nev.; his mother, Sally Reinschmidt and close friend, Craig Braack of Andover; one sister, Amanda (Matthew) Wheeler of Vermont; a niece, Laena Wheeler; a nephew, Noah Wheeler; and a cousin, Michelle Arnold.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his Uncle Joseph Andrew Ritter.

Michael loved anything outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, dirt bikes and riding 4-wheelers. His friends called him the Dirt Bike Kid. He was an extremely talented woodworker and could build or fix just about anything. Mike was also a very good mechanic.

People that knew him would describe him as smart, respectful and a jokester.

Sadly, there was another side of Mike that few knew about. He was greatly affected by the loss of his father to brain cancer at seven thus beginning his lifelong battle with depression and anger. Without a male influence in his life Mike was susceptible to peer pressure, being bullied in school, hanging with the wrong “friends” and open to experimenting with drugs and alcohol. These were choices he made but eventually these choices became a prison of destructive consequences that spiraled into mental illness.

Mike’s story is not unique but it doesn’t have to be yours. Resources are available to assist with depression and mental health awareness. Please seek out help. Or if you know someone who needs assistance, please intervene. The Crisis Lifeline is 988. Clarity Wellness in Wellsville offers an Allegany County 24 Hour Crisis Hotline at 888-448-3367.

Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. There will be a Celebration of Life to be held in the spring at a date to be determined. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

Memorial contributions in Michael’s name may be made to Clarity Wellness, 4222 Bolivar Road, Wellsville, NY 14895. © 2024 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.

Sally, what tremendous strength in sharing his story even while grieving. I knew about the challenges he faced with addiction, but I never knew about the bullying he endured. By speaking so openly, you are bringing awareness and helping others, even in the middle of heartbreak. I am keeping all of you in my prayers.

  14. Sally,
I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. After I left Jones I went on and did 12 years of drug and alcohol detox and rehab nursing. Then I retired and started working per diem in a local nursing home. That job forced me into the behavioral health unit in Olean and then I attended Clarity upon discharge from there. So I am all too familiar with mental health. I pray that God holds you in his arms as you go through this and that you might see a good that comes from his death. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers
