Rebecca Brown Scott

April 15, 1976 - November 1, 2025

BELMONT – Rebecca Suzanne Jung Soon Brown Scott, 49, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 1, 2025, due to an infection resulting from treatment for leukemia.

Becky was born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 15, 1976, and came to her forever family, Wendall and Priscilla Brown, who now reside in Scio. She was a 1994 graduate of Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Conn. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut and later earned a Master of Education degree from Central Connecticut State University. On August 10, 2008, Becky married the love of her life, Jason A. Scott, who survives her.

In addition to her husband of 17 years, Becky is survived by two daughters Madelynn Scott (14) and Malia Scott (12) both of Belmont; her parents Wendall and Priscilla Brown, four siblings Heather Brown of Edmonds, WA, Matthew (Beth Denton) Brown of Charlotte, NC, Jeremy (Ann Frank) Brown of Corning and Andy (Peter Donovan) Brown of West Seattle, WA; a dear aunt, Janet Lambert of Scio; a sister-in-law, Stacy (Dave) Shields of Alma; her mother-in-law, Cheryl (Michael) Scott of Friendship; and beloved extended family, Kelly (Dustin) Burch and Sara (Chris) Freedman Leone and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Jack Scott and an uncle, David Lambert.

Becky’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to Madelynn and Malia. She was an avid soccer mom, cheering proudly from the sidelines as Madelynn excelled on the field, and she loved watching Malia shine on stage with her dancing. Together, they shared a love of baking, talking, shopping, going to the beach, planting flowers, playing board games and cards. A favorite memory with Malia was riding the Slinky Dog roller coaster at Disney World—a moment filled with laughter and pure joy.

Becky found great fulfillment in her role as a Foster Care and Home Finder at Allegany County DSS. As Union President, she was a respected advocate for her colleagues, earning admiration for her leadership and dedication. Prior to this work, she also served as Deputy Director of Literacy West in Belmont as well as teaching third grade in Connecticut.

Travel was a true delight for Becky. With her family, she explored the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Yosemite, New York City and Disney World. Las Vegas was a fond memory as Jason proposed to her at the top of the Stratosphere. Cruising in the Caribbean and vacationing in Seattle to visit family and seeing the sights in San Francisco on her honeymoon were highlights in Becky’s travelogue.

Football was a passion for Becky. She was an avid game watcher, knew all the plays and enjoyed bragging rights winning brackets, pools and family bets. She also followed closely the University of Connecticut Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. She was a Red Sox devotee attending a game in NYC this last summer.

Becky loved music and was a talented dancer. Her skill at board games often had the family groaning when she won on her first turn. She was also known for her award-winning pies, which were a highlight at the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fair. Autumn was her favorite season, and Christmas was her favorite holiday; wrapping gifts for everyone brought her great joy. One of her cherished holiday traditions was watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with her brother Andy.

Becky cherished date nights to the movies and trying new restaurants with her husband. Together, she and Jason built a strong partnership and parenting team grounded in love, respect, and honesty. She treasured quiet moments on her porch in her rocking chair, sharing thoughts, hopes, and dreams.

Visitation will be held Friday (November 7) from 5-8 PM at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. Becky’s memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday (November 8), also at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

  2. Oh no, my heart hurts so bad for her family. My girls and I got to know her through the literacy program which the girls worked for in Jr high. We were so excited when she met Jason, two really sweet genuine good people. They made a beautiful family together! Prayers and hugs to her family and may God hold you close during this time of need.

  9. My heart is broken. I remember the day Becky came “home” to her loving family Brownie and Priscilla. Her journey from Korea to Florence, Massachusetts was the beginning of a beautiful life. We lived right next door, and we loved that beautiful child from first sight. She quickly showed her strength and determination–even at 5 months, she could get her point across. She has never stopped amazing me–such a strong, brave, joyful and loving woman.
