Winifred A. Lehman

May 31, 1932 - August 27, 2025

WELLSVILLE – Winifred Ann “Winnie” Lehman, 93, passed away on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville surrounded by family.

Winifred was born in North Hornell on May 31, 1932 to Martin C. and Gladys M. (Boyd) Simar. She was a 1950 graduate of Wellsville High School. On September 18, 1953, at the Christian Temple in Wellsville, Winifred married Robert James Lehman, who preceded her on April 6, 2023.

Until the 1980’s Winnie nurtured her family by being a stay-at-home mom. Sandwiched around that time at home she worked at Newberry’s as a sales clerk and later at Key Bank as a teller and Ames as a cashier.

Winnie is survived by a large and loving family, including seven children, Jacalyn Clemons of Olean, Suzette (Dennis) Ordiway of Andover, Michael Lehman of Wellsville, Linda (Frank) Hammond also of Wellsville, Timothy Lehman of Rochester, Camille (Larry) Fuentes of Avon, and Amy (Tim) Fanton of Andover; a sister, Norma Holland of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren, Tina Clemons, Theresa Clemons, Gregory Clemons, Gerome Clemons, Justin “Bud” Ordiway, Jeremy (Samantha) Ordiway, Melissa (Keith) Pierce, Matthew Lehman, Frank (Christina) Hammond, II, Alyssa Hammond, Christina Fuentes, Jordan (Maggie) Fuentes, and Brandon (Kathy) Fuentes; 22 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with her husband of 69 years, Winnie was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Lehman; a sister, Joyce Bissell and an infant grandchild, Elisha Clemons.

With eight children, Winnie actually loved doing laundry. She loved to cook and bake. She loved to knit and crochet, producing sweaters, hats, mittens and scarfs. She loved playing board games with her family and she loved the family gatherings at the family pond in Alfred with the swimming, campfires, hayrides and berry picking. To state it another way, Winnie loved everything family and devoted her life to that end.

But Winnie had 69 years of a wonderful life with her husband Bob. Together, they enjoyed bowling, riding bikes, roller skating, watching birds, listening to their favorite music and dancing to their favorite tunes of the 40’s and 50’s; including Nat King Cole. They also enjoyed traveling together to Florida, Virginia and more locally, Black Lake for a time of fishing.

Winnie was forgiving, caring, spiritual, tolerant, funny, a good story teller and above all a warm loving mother. She was a long-time member of the Wellsville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The highpoint of her life happened in 1960 when she was baptized in the Genesee River as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Visitation will be held on Friday (September 5) from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. The memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 115 Chamberlain Street in Wellsville.

  4. My name is Jacey Gordon and a friend of “Winnie’s son, Timothy! I wish to offer my condolences to to the entire family for your loss! I would like to attribute to Timothy’s deceased mother an acknowledgement of what she instilled in her son, Timothy, when raising him! I am sure that the family and friends of his beloved mother, would like to know that he has support regarding his loss of his mom…because he is well liked in our building where we both reside, for he is a very kind and good person that she admirably raised! She must of been a very special person to have raised such a “special” son!
