Robert E. “Bob” Black, 73, died at home on Monday (Dec. 14, 2020) after battling cancer for five weeks.
Mr. Black was born on Nov. 15, 1947 in Wellsville to Robert L. and Grace M. (Smith) Black. He was a 1966 graduate of Scio Central School and later served in the United States Army from 1967-1970 with a tour in Germany. After his army tour, he started working at Big N in Hornell where he met Joanne M. Criss. They were married a year later in St. Ann’s Church in Hornell on Oct. 14, 1972. They settled in Andover shortly thereafter, much to Bob’s surprise since Scio and Andover were such rivals in sports.
Bob worked as an inspector at Dresser-Rand Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 2013.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Bob is survived by two sons, Jason (Becky) Black of Manchester and Andrew Black of Andover; two brothers-in-law, Robert Frost of Dundee and James (Tammy) Criss of Arkport; a sister-in-law, Linda (Thomas) Harding of Webster; three grandchildren, Olivia Black, Sydney Black and Landon Black; his dear friend and co-worker at Dresser for many years, Bob Shelly; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Roberta Frost; two brothers, David Black and Daniel “Danny” Black; a baby sister, Madelene Black; and his precious grandson, Emerson Robert Black at six weeks.
Bob was very involved in community activities. He served on the Andover 4th of July and Andover Haunted House Committee’s for 25 years. He also served on the Andover Central School Board for four years and attended many marching band events.
Bob was an active member of Andover Historical Society and Andover Golden Agers. He played Santa’s Helper for over 40 years but as “Poppy” to his beloved grandchildren, some things must remain a secret. He was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Choir and Andover Ecumenical Choir.
As a patriotic American, on September 11th, Bob, along with his son, Andrew and his grandnephew, Brandon Brown, placed an American flag at every residence in Andover. He truly became Andover’s adopted native son. Additionally, Bob was an avid Buffalo Bill’s and Sabre’s fan and actively rooted for the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be no visitation at this time. A memorial service will be held in the spring at a date to be announced. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Andover. Myron’s life was marked by his love for the Lord.

Myron G. Zimmerman, 84, formerly of Tonawanda, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday (Aug. 22, 2015) at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Zimmerman was born on Feb. 27, 1931 in North Tonawanda to Myron D. and Elsie (Krupp) Zimmerman. He was a 1951 graduate of Kenmore West High School and later served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. On May 7, 1955, at the Kenmore Presbyterian Church, he married Mary P. Reeser, who survives.
Myron worked as a cabinet maker; working out of the Buffalo Carpenters District Union #276 in Buffalo for 40 years, until his retirement in 1989.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Myron is survived by three sons, Myron R. (Diane) Zimmerman of Lake Wales, Fla., Mark K. (Susan) Zimmerman of Scio and Dale A. (Vicki) Zimmerman of Lockport; one daughter, Sandara L. (Paul) Rog of Webster, Fla.; one sister, Carol Zarbo of Kenmore; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, Roger Zimmerman.
Myron’s life was marked by his love for the Lord. As a born again Christian, everything he did and said reflected that relationship he had with Christ. He enjoyed working with his hands and perfecting the craft of woodworking and cabinetry. Myron was especially fond of watching cowboy and western movies. Additionally, he was an avid trap and skeet shooter which fit nicely with his love for hunting and enjoyment of the outdoors. Myron was a life member of the Tonawanda Sportsmen’s Club and was also a member of the Friendship American Legion.
There will be no prior visitation. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregory B. DeSalvatore, officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, full military honors will be rendered. Burial at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Tonawanda will be at the convenience of the family.

Diane K. Young, 62, passed away Friday (Oct. 26, 2018) at Highland Hospital in Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Young was born on July 23, 1956 in Niagara Falls to Homer and Winifred (Shurr) Houck. She was a 1974 graduate of La Salle Senior High School in Niagara Falls. On June 28, 1997 she married Dave L. Young, who survives.
Diane worked for Allegany Arc in Wellsville for 29 years. She most recently held the position of Community Services On-site Facilitator until her retirement in August of 2018 due to health concerns.
In addition to her husband of 21 years, Diane is survived by one brother, Mark (Jean) Houck of Rochester; an “adopted son” Dan (Megan) Stanton of Wellsville; an “adopted grandson” Ryker Stanton of Wellsville; one sister-in-law, Nancy (Gary) Harris of Pine Hurst, N.C.; four nieces and nephews, Josh Houck, Anna Houck, Jordan Harris and Alexa Harris; and her large extended family of co-workers at Allegany Arc.
Diane was an avid crafter. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting baby blankets and booties to give as love gifts for the many babies she encountered in her large circle of friends. She enjoyed going to craft shows as a favorite pastime as well as getting new ideas for her own creative gift ideas. Diane had a large collection of dolls that she proudly displayed throughout her home. Additionally, she was a lifetime lover of animals, especially dogs.
In her younger days, Diane and her husband enjoyed camping together. Some of their favorite memories were the times spent in Ogdensburg and 1000 Islands fishing, boating and touring the Eisenhower Lock at Massena on the Saint Lawrence Seaway. In the words of her husband, Diane was “wise beyond her years” and “she made me a better person”. As a further tribute, Dave affectionately called his wife “the sweetest person he knew”.
To sum up Diane’s life, she had the heart of a caregiver, both at work and at home.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor. Elva Cornell of the Allentown United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio.

Mr. Young was born on June 29, 1960 in Wellsville to Douglas V. and Roberta J. (Walker) Young. He was a 1979 graduate of Scio Central School. On June 28, 1997 he married Diane K. Houck who preceded him in death on October 26, 2018.
David worked as a senior mechanic for ARC of Allegany County in Wellsville for 15 years, retiring in 2018. He also drove school bus for Wellsville Central School both before and after working for ARC.
Dave is survived by his sister, Nancy L. (Gary) Harris of Pinehurst, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Mark (Jean) Houck of Rochester; an aunt, Elizabeth Walker of Wellsville; nieces and nephews, Jordan M. Harris, Alexa N. Harris, Anna Houck, and Josh Houck; and several cousins.
He loved to camp and especially enjoyed Cowanesque Lake, the Hudson Valley region, Ogdensburg and 1000 Islands. His favorite memories included boating and touring various locations on the Saint Lawrence Seaway.
Dave was a very kind person, always willing to help those who were in need. He was sensitive and thoughtful to those around him. He had a unique ability to choose the most suitable gifts for those he loved.

Pauline M. Gath (Croyle) Yorton passed away Friday (Aug. 31, 2018) at the age of 103 at the home of her grandson Steven VanVooren and his wife Lanny where she resided in St. Augustine Fla.
Pauline was born on June 28, 1915 in Cheektowaga to Ora and Charles Gath. The Gath family settled in Andover, on Chestnut Street where they raised their seven children.
Pauline is survived by her daughter Laura (Croyle) VanVooren who lived with her in St. Petersburg and St. Augustine Florida; two grandsons, Steven VanVooren and wife Lanny and Arthur Berard and wife Janet; 4 great grandchildren, Kayla Mandeville and husband David, Derek Berard and wife Sarah, Jesse Bertolof, and Amber Bertolof Seal and husband Pat; one great great grandson Tyler James Berard, age 3; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Ora and Charles Gath; her first husband John Croyle and her second husband Clyde Yorton; six brothers, Lawrence Gath, George Gath, Walter Gath, Howard Gath, Kenneth Gath, and Charles Gath; and a granddaughter Janet VanVooren Berard.
Pauline was active in the United Methodist Church in Andover playing the organ at church services until retiring to Florida. She continued playing for church services in Florida for many years. Pauline also played piano for the Minstrel Shows that performed for many years in Andover. She maintained an active life working at Alfred University in Alfred as well as in Florida until the age of 102. You would often see her riding her bike to work.
A graveside service for the burial of her ashes will be at Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover in the spring of 2019. Local arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.

Donna L. York, 50, passed away peacefully Sunday (May 1, 2016) at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She never gave up the fight.
Donna was born on Sept. 19, 1965 in Houston, Tex. to Albert and Sandra (Longworth) Murray. She was a 1983 graduate of Nimitz High School in Houston.
She worked in administration at Alstom Preheater from 1987 until the present.
In addition to her father, Albert Murray of Middleburg, Fla., Donna is survived by her fiancé, LeRoy McGhee of Wellsville, whom she planned to marry as soon as her health would allow; a daughter, Crystal (Bill) Ferguson of Wellsville; two sons, Kyle York of Wellsville and Kurtis York of Philadelphia, Pa.; two step-daughters, Mandy (Jody Spotts) York of Wellsville and Mariah (Kyle) Vaughn of Bolivar; a step-son, Kash McGhee of Olean; four sisters, Lori (Sal Salvaggio) Rhein of Mastic Beach, Michelle (Tim) Foley of Spring, Tex., Amanda Webb of Jacksonville, Fla. and Anna Locascio of Ocala, Fla.; and three brothers, Daniel (Kathy) Longworth of Dothan, Ala., Michael South and Rick South, both of Fla.
Additionally, she is survived by her aunt and uncle, Donna and Gary Brown of Andover; three sisters-in-law, Deb (Ward) Votava of Hammondsport, Cindy (John) Flint of Almond and Sue (Steve) Gronski of Horseheads; five grandchildren, Tera Harrison, Michael Ferguson, Sandra Ferguson and Ezra Ferguson, all of Wellsville and Hollis Vaughn of Bolivar; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her mother, Sandra Longworth, she was predeceased by Michael York, the father of her children.
Donna devoted her life to taking care of people. Whether it was neighborhood children or her children’s friends, she “adopted” them as her own. In the words of her family, she was “the most selfless person ever”. At times she was outspoken with her motherly advice, saying what needed to be said. She loved her family dearly and strove to set the bar high.
“Flowers” as her closest friends called her, loved her flower and vegetable gardens; Iris’ being her favorite. As “Mama”, she was the football queen and family chauffeur, transporting and supporting all her children’s many activities. Donna loved to cook. She was famous for potato breakfast on Christmas and her “It Won’t Last Long” cake. Some of her children’s favorite memories are the family camping/fishing trips.
Donna was a past member of the Wellsville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge and the Wellsville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
There will be a time of visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Andover Fire Hall.

Funeral Service: Saturday, February 4, 2017 4:00 p.m. Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover Clara H. York, 88, is now basking in the presence of her Lord having passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Highland Park Nursing Center following a lengthy illness.
Clara was born on March 17, 1928 to Gerald and Flossie Irene (Harding) Hann. She was a 1945 graduate of Andover Central School. On August 17, 1946 she married Douglas C. York, who predeceased her on February 28, 2004.
Mrs. York worked at the Market Basket in Andover from 1958-1967. She then worked as a teller at the Andover branch of Key Bank from 1967 until her retirement in 1992. Clara was also a contributing writer for the Alfred Sun where her articles appeared in the “Andover the Hill” column.
Clara is survived by three sons, Jack York of Rochester, Roger (Paula) York of Andover and Tommy (Valencia) York of Charlotte NC; a daughter Jean Orth of Cheektowaga; two brothers, Francis Hann of Wellsville and Howard (Georgiana) Hann of Birdsell; 21 Grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Hann and Warren C. Hann.
Clara enjoyed quilting. She was particularly talented at writing and she published several short stories. Her children honor her dedication to them as a working mom, and her devotion to caring for her husband, who endured blindness, for twenty-five years.
She was a member of the Andover Chamber of Commerce and served the community on the Andover Library Board. Clara was very active in the Andover Presbyterian Church, offering her gift of music as an organist for forty years, and serving as a Sunday School teacher, elder, trustee, and as a member of the United Presbyterian Women’s Group. She was also a member of the Christian Business Women’s Club.
Friends may call Saturday, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 with Clara’s grandson, Jason York, officiating. A private burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Andover at the convenience of the family.

Janice G. “Jan” Woythal, 80, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 28, 2018) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mrs. Woythal was born on Dec. 22, 1937 in Syracuse to Henry and Virginia (Waldt) Latimer. She was a 1956 graduate of Marcellus Central School and later earned her Registered Nursing license from Highland Hospital in Rochester. On Aug. 22, 1959, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Marcellus, she married Frank M. Woythal, who survives.
Janice began her nursing career in 1959 and spent the final 25 years at Andover Medical Center in Andover before retiring in 1993.
In addition to her husband of 59 years Jan is survived by a son, Mark (Pam) Woythal of Duanesburg; two daughters, Karen (Gary) MacFarquhar of Evergreen, Colo. and Sue (John) Liebe of Brockport; a sister, Barbara (Bernard) Bleskoski of Rochester; two brothers, William Latimer of Marcellus and Robert (Laurie) Higgins of Winding Path; four grandchildren, Dylan Woythal of Schenectady, Andrew Woythal of Duanesburg, Douglas Liebe of Blacksburg, Va. and Brian Liebe of Brockport.
Jan loved to travel. In the earlier years, the family vacations took them to all 50 states and the entire country of Canada from coast to coast. In 1999, their travels took on a different purpose when they joined Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners. Over the next 13 years, she and her husband helped build nearly 100 homes in 16 states and Canada and have met some of the finest people along the way including Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Because they lived by the motto “Those Who Rest Will Rust”, they maintained this pattern until they were 75 and 80 respectively.
Jan was an avid gardener. One of her favorite spots to visit was the famous Butchart Gardens in British Columbia. She loved the solitude of her own flower garden at home and spent many hours tending to her passion. Another favorite pastime, which she shared with her husband, was birdwatching. Together, they have catalogued over 400 life birds in 49 states.
Jan and her husband Frank were truly joined at the hip. She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren and loved them dearly. On the wall above their bed is a saying that reads “Just one lifetime won’t be enough for us”. A beautiful summation of how they cared for each other.
There will be no prior visitation. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Jody D. Wood, 54, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2017) at home surrounded by loving family following a brief illness.
Jody was born on April 15, 1963 in Elmira to Arlene M. Thomas. As a single mom, Arlene’s mother, Estelle Thomas stepped in and together they provided a loving home in which to grow up. Jody was a 1981 graduate of Corning East High School.
Jody worked as a secretary for the Wellsville Daily Reporter from 2002 until 2012. She then took a position with Northern Lights in Wellsville, doing secretarial and production work through the present. She had previously worked at Alfred University as a custodian.
In addition to her mother and step father, Arlene Thomas-Leonard and Ray Leonard of Newark Valley, Jody is survived by a daughter, Danielle (Aaron) Marsh of Wellsville; one brother, Jeff (Debbie) Thomas of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; her Aunt Dot Thomas of Campbell; her Aunt June Field of Andover; and her Aunt Iva Thomas of Bath.
Additionally she is survived by three grandchildren, Brooke Marsh, Laurynn Flamini and Avery Marsh; two nieces, Michelle Thomas and Crystal Buckland, both of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; four grand-nieces and grand-nephews Hailey Thomas, Dominik Gridley, Jenna Buckland and Deejay Buckland; her former husband and father of their daughter, Daniel (Lori) Wood of Ulysses, Pa.; a special friend, Kevin Kaczmarek of Lancaster; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Estelle and Chester Thomas; and her Aunt and Uncle Betty (Vince) Gaskey, Aunt and Uncle Irene (Jack) Walker; Uncle and Aunt John (Friedel) Thomas, Uncle and Aunt Charles (Juanita) Thomas, Uncle James Field, and Uncle Bruce Thomas.
Jody had many loves. She loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She loved tending to her home, taking care of her plants and cats. She loved reading, crafting and the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also loved the solitude of nature and enjoyed feeding the local birds. Jody was an avid music enthusiast. A special memory for her and her mother was the long weekend they spent in Canada attending an Elvis Festival.
Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A private memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the convenience of the family.

Nan Irene (Girts) Wonderling, age 93, of Osgood, Ind. passed away, early Friday (Feb. 14) with the comfort of her son, Buzz, and daughter-in-law, Josie. Nan was born on July 22, 1926 the daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Mathers) Girts in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Nan grew up around Summerville, Pa. along with her brother and sisters. She attended and graduated from the Summerville school system. Nan worked in the data entry department for Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She met and married Harold James Wonderling and they were blessed two sons Buzz and James.
Upon her retirement she moved to Indiana to be closer to her son Buzz and his wife Josie.
Nan is survived by sons Buzz (Josie) Wonderling of Connersville, Ind. and James B. Wonderling of Dahlonega, Ga., sister Phyllis Chestnut of N.Y., grandchildren Sara Wonderling of N.Y., Stacey (Tavis) Ganoung of N.Y., Sheila Flanigan of Osgood, Ind., Bill (Tonya) Flanigan of Connersville, Ind. and Brian (Heather) Flanigan of Connersville, Ind., along with 9 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and Ronald Girts, and sister Shirley.

Mary Jo Wolcott, 63, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Thursday (June 4, 2015) at Wellsville Manor Care Center, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.
Mary Jo was born on March 28, 1952 in Lancaster to John N. and Isabell B. (Phalen) Wolcott. She was a 1971 graduate of Lancaster High School.
After moving to the Andover area, she worked for Current Controls, Inc. in Wellsville for many years.
Mary Jo is survived by two brothers, Matthew (Beth) Wolcott of Wellsville and John (Gail) Wolcott of Scio; two sisters, Sally (Bruce) McNaughton of Andover and Catherine (David) Wahl of Scio; five nephews, Steven (Vikki) Wolcott, Micah (Kim) Wolcott, Jason (Jennifer) McNaughton, Jeremy McNaughton, Adam (Tammy) Blouvet; and four nieces, Mindy (Jimmy) Muench, Jackie (Robert) Stillson, Christina McFall and Danielle Wahl.
Mary Jo loved sewing and making crafts and giving them to friends and family, especially on holidays and birthdays. During her long struggle with cancer, she came to know Jesus as her personal savior.
Friends are invited for a time of visitation Sunday (June 7) from 4-6 p.m. and Monday from Noon-2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Daniel Kenyon of the Wellsville Bible Church, officiating. A private burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover at the convenience of the family.

Ray L. Witter, 85, formerly of Andover, passed away Saturday (Nov. 4, 2017) at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry. Ga.
Mr. Witter was born March 9, 1932 in Olean to LeRoy E. and Malita (Clemons) Witter, Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Olean High School.He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. In 1969 he married Janet Marie Eldredge, who predeceased him in 2010.
Ray worked as a police officer for the Olean Police Department for 16 years before transferring to the Andover Police Department where he worked an additional 16 years, retiring in 1989. He was also a part-time deputy for the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
Ray is survived by two daughters, Miki Lu Mullins of West Point, Ga. and Lisa Rae (John) Heineman of Ball Ground, Ga.; two sons, Robert J. Witter of Columbus, Ga. and Gary Lyle (Lisa) Witter of Sugar Hill, Ga.; one step-son, Dana J. (Starla) Williams of Greenwood; one brother, Charles (Rose) Witter of Portville; one sister, Naomi “Tootie” Witter of Olean; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one son, Daniel Ray Witter; two sisters, Donna Gray and Gloria Bright; and four brothers, LeRoy E. Witter, Jr., Donald Ward Witter, Richard T. Witter and Robert J. Witter.
Ray was a Past Master Mason for the Andover Masonic Lodge 558 and an honorary member of the Andover Fire Department. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and was a life-long dog lover.
Per his wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A graveside service with full military honors will be held in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. at the convenience of the family.

Phyllis B. Wilson, 78, passed away peacefully Saturday (Sept. 29, 2012) at Highland Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Wilson was born on Nov. 16, 1933 in Andover to William and Isabel (Wereley) Burger. She was a 1951 graduate of Andover Central School. On June 4, 1956, she married Edward T. Wilson, who survives.
Phyllis was the Director of Nursing at Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville for 18 years until her retirement in 1993. Previously, she worked for Mary’s Nursing Home in Wellsville.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by three sons, Edward (Nancy) Wilson, Jr. and Eric (Beatrice) Wilson, both of Wellsville and Scott (Deborah) Wilson of Honeoye Falls; a daughter, Berneata (Richard) Bargar of Latham; a sister, Janet (James) Appier of Big Flats; a brother, Clayton Burger of Clarksville; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Burger of Big Flats and Marjorie Burger of Hornell; a special niece, Constance (Randall) Belmont of Andover; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard (Rose Mary) Burger, Donald Burger, and Robert Burger; a sister, Jessie (Newell) Baker; and a grandson, Shawn Wilson.
Phyllis loved to quilt and sew. She was a long time member of Andover United Methodist Church and an active member of Andover Golden Agers, but more than these, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and nurse, who cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Leona D. Wilson, 91, passed away Sunday (March 20, 2016) at Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville, surrounded by family.
Leona was born on April 8, 1924 in Angelica to Roy and Lillian (Bump) Mack.
Leona worked as a secretary for St. Bonaventure University in Olean for many years. Previously she worked for Wellsville Water and Light, Montgomery Wards, Cretekos, Fassett House and Village Café, all in Wellsville.
Leona is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Glenn) Thorp of Andover; a son, Robert Wilson of Wellsville; two sisters, Eleanor Murphy of Silver Lake and Jeane Bickford of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Glenn (Suzanne) Thorp and Coleen Knepfler, both of Andover, Shari Lamb of Clermont, Fla. and Brian (Christine) Thorp of Ramsey, N.J.; seven great grandchildren, Nick Thorp, Tommy Thorp, Holly Baker, Tyler Lamb, Amanda Thorp, Jakob Thorp and Taylor Knepfler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, LaVerne Mack and Carl Mack.
Leona enjoyed music and found expression to that passion by playing the piano, going to concerts and attending theater productions. She was an avid fan of the Olean Community Theater. Leona was especially fond of Jazz and Big Band but she also liked good country music with such artist as Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson. She was very happy with a good book, with novels and other works of fiction her favorites. When she wasn’t reading, she enjoyed creating something out of nothing. She liked to walk, both for the exercise and simply to look at things.
Leona loved people and developed many friends over the years. She missed Olean and all the many friendships she developed there. And finally, she had a big soft spot in her heart for animals and had many pets over the years.
Per Leona’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Andover.

Edward T. Wilson, Sr., 89, entered the presence of his Savior on Tuesday (Sept. 3, 2019) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Wilson was born on May 12, 1930 on Staten Island, New York City, to Charles, Sr. and Helen (Butler) Wilson. He was a 1949 graduate of Ralph R. McKee Vocational and Technical High School on Staten Island. On June 4, 1955, in Wellsboro, Pa., he married Phyllis J. Burger, who predeceased him on Sept. 29, 2012.
After high school, Ed served in the United States Army and held several civilian positions before meeting Phyllis in Rochester. Several years after Ed and Phyllis were married, they moved to Andover and ultimately moved to the family farm.
Ed worked at Air Preheater and when the children were older hewent back to school to get his Associate’s Degree from Alfred State College in 1970. He then worked at Dresser Rand as an engineer until his retirement in 1992.
Ed is survived by his four children, Edward (Nancy) Wilson, Jr. and Eric (Beatrice) Wilson, both of Wellsville, Scott (Debra) Wilson of Honeoye Falls, and Berneata (Richard) Bargar of Latham; his eleven grandchildren, Margaret Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Grace Wilson, Emma (Zack Sisson) Wilson, Jill Wilson, Steven Wilson, Nicole (Benjamin) Gifford, Lana (Justin Yager) Hoskins, Richard (Coleen) Koss, Brian Bargar and Rachel Bargar; five great grandchildren, Xander Gifford, Phoenix Gifford, Nova Hoskins, Ivy Hoskins and Johnathan Koss; and several nieces, nephews, and their families including a niece very active in his life, Connie (Randy) Belmont of Andover.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he was predeceased by an infant grandson, Shawn Wilson; a brother, Charles Wilson, Jr., ; and his special friend, Marion Hollen.
Ed was a member of the Andover United Methodist Church until it’s close when he started attending the Andover Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Andover Lions Club where he served as past-president, the Andover American Legion where he served as past-commander, the Wellsville VFW, the Andover Fire Department and the Andover Golden Agers. He also belonged to WASPS (Wellsville Area Small Plane Society).
Other than his family, his greatest joy in life was to work around his property and tinker with his machines, including tractors and lawn mowers. Once asked why he had so many lawn mowers he replied, “They need me.” In recent years, he found joy in spending time with Marion.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Valley Brook Cemetery.

Lettie Naomi Clarke Williamson, 95, passed away Friday (April 12, 2013) at Wellsville Manor Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Williamson was born on July 13, 1917 in Allegheny Township, Pa. to Archie and Ada Dell (Lent) Densmore. She was a 1935 graduate of Genesee Public School. On March 6, 1938, in Independence, she married Decatur M. Clarke, who passed away in July, 1984. On Dec. 30, 1990, she married Burnis Williamson, who passed away June 2, 1997.
Naomi owned and operated Brown’s Nursing Home in Hornell from 1964 until her retirement in 1967. Previously, she worked for Marion Rohr in Hornell as a seamstress and Glidden Pottery in Alfred.
Naomi is survived by three sons, Gerald F. (Linda) Clarke and Max (Susan) Clarke, both of Andover and Wally S. Clarke of Independence; one brother, Gerald (Arlene) Densmore of Georgia; two step-sons, Rick Williamson and David Williamson, both of Lakeland, Fla.; 9 grandchildren, Scott (Misha) Clarke, Stacy Remillard, Kathy (Douglas) McCutcheon, Benjamin (Denise) Clarke, Will Clarke, Hannah (Chuck) Powell, Christi (Antonio) Bazemore, Cheri Field and fiancé Kevin Drake and Cassi (Shane) Sharrett; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to both husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, Irwin Densmore and Archie Rexford Densmore; and four sisters, Althea Hornburg, Gowanda Osgood, Irma Coyendal and infant Dorothy Densmore.
Naomi was a longtime member of Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church where she was baptized in 1951. Her passion in life was that of a caregiver. After retirement in 1967, she was continually taking care of someone and watching over their physical needs.
Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Doris J. Williams, 54, passed away Wednesday (April 6, 2016) at her home.
Doris was born on Dec. 9, 1961 in Cuba to Ralph and Gloria (Kimball) Williams.
She is survived by her son, Jeremy Williams, a sister, Laura L. Hammer (Doug Cotton) of Cameron; and a cousin, Leo “Stub” Preston of Hornell.
Doris used her talents and abilities to the glory of God. She was active at Genesis Bible Church where she had a willingness to serve and a giving heart. She would often ask if any help was needed in the nursery or the café. When it came time for the Easter egg hunt, she would remember to bring a bag of candy.
Doris was faithful to her Wednesday night Bible study, often getting a ride with her spiritual mentors, Lori and Tim Fleming. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her many friends at Highland Day Care in Wellsville.
In her younger years, some of her sister’s favorite memories with Doris were the many games of rummy they enjoyed as siblings and how they used to play out in the yard, throwing the soccer ball back and forth.

Robert Luren Wildman, 73, formerly of Whitesville, passed away Friday (May 17, 2013) at home surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Wildman was born on Jan. 18, 1940 in Austin, Pa. to Tom and Mable Brothers. He resided at the Northern Tier Children’s Home from the time he was six months old until he was adopted by Russell E. and Ruth E. Wildman in 1945. He was a 1959 graduate of Whitesville Central School and in 1963 he graduated from Simmons School of Embalming in Syracuse and served his apprenticeship at James D. Barrett Funeral Home in Elmira.
Bob owned and operated Wildman Funeral Home in Whitesville from 1969 – 1997. Previously, he worked at the Myrtle-Kobler Funeral Home in Niagara Falls; managed the Bond Funeral Home in Bath and later worked at the Crandall Funeral Home in Hornell. In the 1960’s, he was a grounds keeper for Alfred-Almond Central School and was a machinist for Air Preheater in the 1970’s. Additionally, he operated Consolidated Disposal Service from 1983-2000.
Bob is survived by the mother of his four children, Sandra Jean Allen Fitzpatrick; three daughters, Tamie Wildman of Wellsville, Darla (Kevin) Ellison of Scio and Lorie (Brian) Mackey of Rochester; one son, Zack Wildman of Wellsville; six grandchildren, Justin Slocum, Christian Slocum, Brittany Ellison, Rachel Ellison, Bryanna Mackey and Tyler Mackey; and a special longtime companion, Regina Padden.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Cindy Slocum on Sept. 2, 2006.
Bob was an accomplished guitar player and enjoyed writing his own songs. He also liked to write poetry and was fond of making homemade candles. He was a member of the Junior Free Masons, the Whitesville Rod and Gun Club and the Blue Lodge in Andover.

Gary D. Widler, 66, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY following complications from cardiac surgery.
Mr. Widler was born on May 29, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa to Donald J. and Marie M. (Bergquist) Widler. He was a 1964 graduate of Downers Grove North Community High School in Downers Grove, Ill. and earned his bachelor’s degree in business from George Williams College. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1969-71. Gary lived most of his life in the Chicago area but had most recently resided in Andover, NY with his long time partner, Ada White, who survives.
Gary worked for several companies in the Chicago area, most notably as operations manager for 18 years at Phillips & Johnston, Inc. in Glen Ellyn. He later was a member of the grounds crew at Morton Arboretum in Lisle, retiring in 2007.
In addition to Ada White, Gary is survived by his first wife and mother of his son, Jandesa Widler; his son, Brent L. (Lynse) Widler of Chicago; one brother, Richard (Karen) Widler; one grandson Lucas Widler; many step children and step grandchildren; and three nephews.
He was predeceased by his second wife, Joan Phee Widler.
Gary enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish and garden. He passionately shared his flowers and knowledge with his neighbors and friends. Growing dahlias was a skill he learned from his grandfather and continued with expertise. He was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs. When unable to attend a game, he watched with great enthusiasm on TV. Gary was an active volunteer for Hart Comfort House in Wellsville, NY and was a member of Andover American Legion. Though a man of many interest and talents, he cherished most of all the times spent entertaining family and friends.

William L. Whaley, Jr., 80, passed away Friday (Aug. 16, 2013) at home following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family.
Mr. Whaley was born on July 12, 1933 in Jewell Ridge, Va. to William L. and Cloah (Jewell) Whaley, Sr. He was a 1951 graduate of Richlands High School in Richlands, Va.. On Jan. 26, 1967, in Lockport, he married Linda L. Stanley, who survives.
William was a construction worker for many years. He retired from Harrington Industries in Aiken, S.C., where he worked in a manufacturing operation.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Bill is survived by three sons, Albert (Phyllis) Whaley of North Tonawanda, James (Renee) Whaley of Aiken, S.C., and Bill Whaley of Ward; two daughters, Mary (David) Stone of Aiken, S.C. and Janie (Donald) Ward of North Hornell; one brother, Richard (Kat) Colley of Franklinville; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several aunts; one uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Bobbie Ruth White.
Bill was an avid racing fan and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. His greatest joys came through his family which was a great source of pride for him. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and loved and cherished his family deeply.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at noon at the Riverside Assembly of God Church in Wellsville with Rev. John Francisco, officiating.

Mary Ellen Westlake, 89, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
Mrs. Westlake was born on Oct. 17, 1931, in Hornell to Nathan and Mary (Pierce) Tucker of Alfred. She was a 1949 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School. Described as “radical” in her high school year book, she pursued her goals with energy and enthusiasm throughout life.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Latin from Alfred University in 1953 and her Master of Education in Guidance Counseling, also from Alfred University. On April 17, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, John E. Westlake, a Korean War veteran, who predeceased her on June 13, 2003.
Mary Ellen’s first teaching job was at Arkport Central School, where she taught the unusual combination of Latin and Phys. Ed. and advised the cheerleading team. After a few years off when her daughter, Susan, was born, she taught Latin part-time at Alfred-Almond Central School for 27 years, retiring in 1988. At Alfred-Almond, she started and advised a chapter of the Junior Classical League, taking students to state and national conventions where they won many awards. She also served as advisor to the National Honor Society and the Academic All-Stars. In recognition of Mary Ellen’s deep appreciation for her community and her lifetime of service, she was honored as the Alfred-Almond Alumni Association’s Outstanding Service Award Honoree of 2020. Mary Ellen’s life exemplified the spirit of the award even from her younger days. She served as Alfred playground monitor in high school and as a basketball official while still in college. She and her husband were on the Hornellsville Zoning Board, with Mary Ellen as secretary, and were charter members of the Almond Historical Society. She enjoyed being a Camp Fire Girls Leader for seven years when Susan and her friends were involved. She knitted her way through meetings of the A-A Faculty Association and PTA (and many football games) and was active in the Almond 20th Century Club, owner of the Almond Library.
After retirement, Mary Ellen learned to quilt and used this skill to provide a lovely log cabin quilt for the Library’s annual Election Day Raffle every year for about 20 years. She also made wall hangings for Bristol Valley Theater’s fundraising efforts and to brighten the halls of Wellsville Manor Nursing Home, where John spent his final months. Her broad sense of civic responsibility was maintained in later years by her support of the A-A Alumni Association, Alfred University, Allegany County Historical Society, Hornell Garden Club, Special Olympics, Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, and Finger Lakes Land Trust.
Mary Ellen imparted to her family her healthy sense of civic pride as they worked together to nurture people and serve their community. One of Mary Ellen’s great joys was in decorating the Almond Historical Society’s Hagadorn House Museum for Christmas, where her imagination blossomed with varying themes and all-natural, hand-made displays, with her daughter and grandchildren’s assistance. She served for many years as unofficial curator, costume manager, and occasional tour guide for this museum of local history.
She delighted in collecting antiques and completely remodeled her house together with her husband. When that was finished, they started over with a cottage on Canandaigua Lake, which they enjoyed year-round.
Other personal pleasures included feeding the birds and gardening, both vegetables and flowers. When failing eyesight prevented her from quilting, the flower beds and containers around her home continued to turn heads.
Given Mary Ellen’s life-long love of learning, it was natural for this love to flow into her family. Susan has many cherished memories of visiting educational sites such as historic homes, museums, galleries, factories, zoos, aquariums, and beaches, especially in the area around Plymouth, MA, where they vacationed annually.
Mary Ellen is survived by her daughter, Susan (Tom) Steere of Hornellsville; three siblings, Joyce (Ken) Hance of Castile, Marjorie (Jim) Lange of Lenexa, KS, and Richard Tucker of Punta Gorda, FL; six grandchildren, Carolyn (Edward) Tee of Watertown, Daniel (Carissa) Steere of Youngsville, NC, Artemas (Mollie) Steere of Syracuse, John (Dallas) Steere of Philadelphia, PA, James (Madilyn) Steere of Copenhagen, NY, and David Steere of Hornellsville; four great-grandchildren, Edward Tee II, Gemma Tee, Blakely Steere and Oliver Steere; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday (Jan. 1) from 5–7 p.m. and Saturday from 1–2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Due to Covid-19, social distancing and masks will be required. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation, with Rev. Kenneth Chroniger of the Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Alfred Rural Cemetery.

Mildred L. West, 88, formerly of Vista, Calif., passed away Wednesday (April 13, 2016) at Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville, surrounded by family.
Mrs. West was born on Aug. 31, 1927 in Inglewood, Calif. to William K. and Maude D. (Ralston) Mudgett. On Aug. 14, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nev. she married Leland E. West. On Nov. 25, 1972, at the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas, they renewed their vows. Leland predeceased her on Feb. 10, 1997.
Mildred worked as an inspector for Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, Calif.
Millie is survived by a daughter, Donna D. (Gary) Brown of Andover; nine grandchildren, Lori (Sal Salvaggio) Rhein of Mastic Beach, Donna (LeRoy McGhee) York of Wellsville, Anna Locascio of Ocala, Fla., Michelle (Tim) Foley of Spring, Tex., Daniel (Kathy) Longworth of Dothan, Ala., Lee (Kristy) Brown and Jerry (Amy) Brown, both of Andover, Colleen Csizmar of Orange, Conn. and Jennifer (James) Walsh of Sugar Hill, N.H.
Additionally she has 23 great grandchildren, Mitchell Rhein, Zachary Rhein, Crystal (Bill) Ferguson, Kyle York, Kurt York, Kaela Simard, Bryce Foley, Brittany Foley, Nick Longworth, Taylor Brown, Shelbie Brown, Kaleb (Alicia) Brown, Ashley Brown, Daniel Brown, Fiona Brown, Rhiannon Brown, Cormac Brown, Aine Brown, Noah Csizmar, Sophia Csizmar, Rita Walsh, David Walsh and Mary Walsh; 6 great great grandchild, Tera Harrison, Michael Ferguson, Ezra Ferguson, Sandra Ferguson, Aleeah Brown and Lincoln Brown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Longworth; two sisters, Gladys Fink and Helen Plew; and four brothers, Ray Mudgett, Wilmer Mudgett, Lawrence Mudgett and infant Lester Mudgett.
Millie enjoyed gardening. She and her husband loved to travel to various destinations in the U.S. They took a train trip to Alaska on one of their adventures. In her younger years, she enjoyed crocheting and in later years would play BINGO and Skiball with her Manor Hills friends.
There will be a time of visitation on Thursday from 1-3p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Lois Marie Weber, 81, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Nov. 3, 2015) at Rochester General Hospital.
Mrs. Weber was born on March 29, 1934 in Andover to Carroll and Georgianna (Bines) Ruger. She was a 1952 graduate of Andover Central School. On Dec. 13, 1953, she married Harry G. Weber, who predeceased her on Feb. 9, 1989.
Lois managed the Alfred State College Bookstore from 1964 until her retirement in 1994.
Lois is survived by three sons, Gus D. (Mary Ann) Weber and Brian Keith (Elizabeth) Weber, both of Andover and Charles D. Weber of Bristol, Conn.; two daughters, Carol Ann (David) Ormsby of Andover and Glenna Marie (Russell) Godown of Walworth; two sisters-in-law, Margaret “Maggie” Bailey and Sandra “Sandy” Hunt, both of Wellsville; 11 grandchildren, Gus D. (Juleen) Weber, II, Georgiana (Wes) Hilfiker, Donald (Jolene) Green, Brian Robert Weber, Douglas Keith (Jessica) Weber, Christopher Weber, Andrew Weber, Ashley Marie Weber, Daniel (Donna) Godown, Jamie Marie (Sam) Godown and Melanie (Paul) Godown; 14 great grandchildren, Ardell Spinder, Trenton Green, Carter Green, Rylan Green, Hudson Green, Dahlia Green, Baylin Green, Odin Green, Georgiana Hilfiker, Ryan Weber, Aidan Weber, Michaela Weber, Bradon Godown and Elijah Godown; and several nieces and nephews.
Lois enjoyed the thrill of traveling with her husband. Among the many destinations were Australia, Europe, Alaska, Virginia Beach and the regular annual outing to Long Lake in the Adirondacks. Lois and Harry would hitch up the travel trailer and along with their children, take in the sights via the camping experience. Family was so very important to her. She was famous for her many “Loisisms” and to her grandchildren she was the “Spunky Old Lady”. She knew she achieved her objective when she gained the response, “Did you just say that?”
Additionally, she was a longtime member, board member and Past President of the NYS College Book Store Association and served on the Andover Central School Board. She was also a member of the Andover United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The memorial service will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Edith M. Wallace, 91, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 26, 2014) at Highland Park Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Wallace was born on May 9, 1923 in West Union to Craig S. and Nina M. (Davis) Smith. She was a 1939 graduate of Greenwood Central School. On Dec. 5, 1942, she married Herman L. Wallace, who predeceased her on Sept. 7, 1995.
Edith and her husband owned and operated Short’s Service Station in Andover where she worked as a bookkeeper from 1946 until they retired in 1988.
Edith is survived by a daughter, Camilla A. (William) Szymanski of Delray Beach, Fla.; a son, H. Thomas (Ellen) Wallace of Easton, Pa.; a brother, Stanley (Barbara) Smith of Brooksville, Fla.; a step-brother, Watson (Alyane) Walden of Hornell; a step-sister, Dorothy Albert of N. J.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Willie) Sauceda, Craig (Erin) Wallace and Eric (Katie) Wallace; three great grandchildren, Melissa, Sam and Kira; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, she was predeceased by a sister, Myrtle Kilburn and a brother, Charles “Bud” Smith.
Edith was a member of the Andover Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Director from 1997-2001.She was the first secretary of the Andover Parent-Teacher Conference in the 1960’s. Additionally, she served on the Allegany County Historical Society which was instrumental in publishing the “History of Allegany County”.

Interment: Saturday, December 12, 2015 Valley Brook Cemetery, Andover David L. Wallace, 58, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Dec. 8, 2015) while at work.
Mr. Wallace was born on May 27, 1957 in Hornell to Leo and Vivian (Andrus) Wallace. He was a 1975 graduate of Greenwood Central School. On August 4, 1979, in Wellsville, he married Sharon Anderson, who survives.
David worked for Hetzel Buick and Pontiac Garage from 1976 to 1980. From 1980 to 1987 he was employed by the Village of Andover and from 1984 through the present he has been a substitute school bus driver for Andover Central School. Additionally, he worked part time as the caretaker of the Country Estates in Andover; starting in 2001. However, the bulk of his working career was spent as the Andover Highway Superintendent, where he served in that capacity from 1988 through the present. He was scheduled to retire at the end of this year.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, Davey is survived by his son Andrew Wallace of Tonawanda; his Aunt Irene Chaffee of Greenwood and Aunt Dolores Andrus of Hornell; and several nieces and nephews, including a particularly special niece Jennifer Wallace and her two children, Richard and Samantha.
He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings, Larry Wallace, Leo James Wallace, Richard Wallace, and Susan Wallace James.
Davey was a dedicated member of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department and Andover Rescue Squad since 1978 where he served in many capacities including Fire Chief, Treasurer, and Emergency Medical Technician. He was awarded the honor of Fireman of the Year in 1986 and 1999. He was also a member of the Allegany County Town Highway Superintendents Association since 1988 and served as President from 1999-2000. He holds a long standing membership in the NYS Highway Superintendents Association also dating from 1988. His membership with the Allegany County Volunteer Fireman’s Association dates to 1978 and he served as President from 1990 to 1991. Additionally, he was President of the Allegany County Fire Chief’s Association from 1992 to 1995 with membership in the organization since 1987. In 2004 David became the Allegany County District Fire Coordinator for District IV and served in that capacity until the present.
David had a special place in his heart for Lamoka Lake and served as a board member on the Lamoka Waneta Lakes’ Association since 2010. He spent all his free time there enjoying boating, jet skiing and hanging out with his family, friends and 2 dogs, Shea and Nelli. He loved soaking in the refreshment offered by its relaxing atmosphere. Davey also had an appreciated for vehicles other than the local snow plow and school bus, particularly his black Trans Am and red Stingray.
David was a dedicated public servant to Andover and Allegany County and felt honored to serve the people in our area. For those in his hometown, he was the first one out and about on snowy mornings mindful of the safety of all. As a result of his many hours of public service, he made a large number of great friends whose lives have been enriched by knowing him.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 12-3 p.m.at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Andover Fire Station with Rev. Terry Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover.

Ernestine M. Wakefield, 90, passed away on Friday (May 17, 2019) at Hart Comfort House of Allegany County following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Wakefield was born on May 13, 1929 in Andover to Ernest and Cassie S. (Stewart) Witter. She is survived by her husband and lifelong friend, Irving Wakefield, Jr.
Ernestine worked in maintenance for Alfred State College for 20 years, retiring in 1991.
In addition to her husband, Ernestine is survived by 5 children, John (Maryjo) Wakefield of Ontario, Robert (MaryLynn) Wakefield of Toccoa, Ga., Thomas Wakefield and Mark Wakefield, both of Almond and Nancy Chapman of Geneseo; 5 grandchildren, Billy (Tim) Kiernan, Holly (Chris) Brower, Lisa (David) Sexsmith, Paul (Catie) Chapman and Shawn Chapman; 9 great grandchildren, Maggie Kierman, Sarah Kierman, Ellie Brower, Emily Sexsmith, Abby Sexsmith, Samantha Sexsmith, Blake Chapman, Henry Chapman and Mary Chapman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Franklin Witter and James Witter; and 1 sister, Lillian Dickinson.
Ernestine’s love centered on her family. When she cooked, she had her family in mind. She would pull out her home canned vegetables from her garden and combine that with meat out of the freezer for one of her many creations. Her world class rhubarb pie was second to none and she was famous for her home cooked fudge. She often incorporated her grandchildren in the making of chocolate chip cookies, carefully rationing five chips per cookie, a depression era holdover. One of her favorite pastimes was the many back road trips, another way to enjoy time with her family. She enjoyed camping and boating at Stoney Brook and Keuka Parks, you guessed it, with her family.
For some private time, Ernestine enjoyed watching soap operas. She was a true animal lover, especially dogs and cats.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Charlie Emerson of the Almond Union of Churches officiating. She loved music, song and sunshine.
Sharron E. Waide, 75, of Bolivar Road in Wellsville, and formerly of Dansville and Wayland entered peacefully into rest on Monday (March 25, 2019). Her final years were spent embraced by the loving and caring staff of the Manor Hills Special Care Unit who worked tirelessly to make her feel comfortable, loved and at home.
Sharron was born on September 8, 1943 in Baltimore, Md. to Samuel H. and Betty J. (Tabbert) Estel. She attended East Liverpool High School in East Liverpool, Ohio graduating in 1961. She relocated with her family to Monroe County, N.Y. while her father attended seminary. It was during those years that she married her husband Harold Waide, who survives, and began a family.
Sharron attended SUNY Geneseo, graduating in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She had worked for the State of New York for a time teaching in the prison system before obtaining additional degrees and certifications in computer science and programming. She worked for Monroe County at Monroe Community College through her retirement in 2012.
Sharron was strong in her faith. She was secure in the knowledge of her salvation in Christ and in her eventual reunion with her family. She loved music, song and sunshine. She marveled at the beauty of the natural world and the harmony of creation. Sharron played the violin and sang in praise and worship bands in church. She could be found singing and playing bluegrass gospel tunes at jam sessions around Western New York. Her infectious smile and gentle nature touched the hearts of many.
In addition to her husband: Harold E Waide, Sr. of Wellsville, she is survived by three children. Loretta Haley, of Rolla, Mo., Harold (Karen) Waide of Genesee, Pa. and John (Arielle) Waide of Wellsville; three siblings, Samuel Estel of Hurricane, W.Va., Forest Estel of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Donna Grove of Canfield, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a beloved grandson , Raymond James Waide.

Linda Gay Violet, 79, passed away Tuesday (April 7, 2020) at home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Violet was born on July 24, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Henry Niel and Edna May (Ingelby) Rasmusen. On Oct. 30, 1955 in Reno, Nev., she married Charles W. Violet who survives. She worked as an Art Instructor at Napa Valley College in California for twenty years.
Along with her husband of 64 years, Linda is survived by her daughter, Teri Lynn Violet of Wellsville, a son Michael S. Violet of Napa, Calif.; sisters, Sharyn (Gene) Hubert of Vallejo, Calif. and Tye Loren (Ron) Long of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Saira Violet, Rachael Violet, Bryce (Kayla) Cilvick, and Micah (Nick) Olsen; great grandchildren, Ethan Brammer, Eva Brammer, Cooper Olsen, Zander Olsen; and a great granddaughter on the way.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dean G. Violet; sisters, Ellen Mathews and Donna Johnson; and a brother, Kim Niel Rasmusen.
In her priorities, family was first, last, and always. She and Charles were blessed with a wonderful marriage, having a deep and abiding love for each other. Distance was not an obstacle as they made sure they were involved with their grandchildren and great grandchildren, flying to wherever necessary to participate in their family events and milestones.
Linda was kind and loving. Having come from a long line of artists, she had a natural passion for art and crafted her projects in numerous mediums. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While attendance recently was difficult, the church family brought the service to her, for which she was very thankful.

A lasting legacy from Bill was his deep love for his wife Lynn.
Charles W. Violet (Bill), 83, passed away Monday (May 18, 2020) at home after a long illness..
Mr. Violet was born on March 6, 1937 in Sacramento, Calif., to Ralph Raymond and Voda Charlotte (Madsen) Violet. He was raised by his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Sadie and Arthur McIntyre. On Oct. 30, 1955 in Reno, Nev., he married the love of his life, Linda Gay Rasmusen (Lynn) who preceded him in death on April 7, 2020. Charles and Linda were residents of Napa Valley from 1960 to 2019, when they moved to Wellsville to live with their daughter.
Bill began his working career as a young man on the Southern Pacific Railroad as an apprentice machinist in Sacramento, Ca.. In 1960, he moved his young family to Vallejo Ca. where he would spend the rest of his working career at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. It was there that he found his second love, submarines. Bill continued as a machinist in the building of fifteen nuclear submarines. His wife and children always celebrated each submarine’s completion with him by attending it’s launch into the San Francisco Bay, with thousands of other Shipbuilding families. Later in Bill’s career, he became a specialist in the planning of nuclear submarine refueling. A highlight of his career was being awarded “Employee of the Year” at a time when the shipyard employed over 100,00 employees. He was also a certified instructor in the field of nuclear refueling for the Department of the Navy. He retired in 1992 when the shipyard began the process of decommission.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Teri L. Violet of Wellsville; a son, Michael S. Violet of Napa, Calif.; an aunt, Loree Jerome of Sacramento, Calif.; his grandchildren, Saira Violet, Rachael Violet, Bryce (Kayla) Cilvick, and Micah (Nick) Olsen; great grandchildren, Ethan Brammer, Eva Brammer, Cooper Olsen, Zander Olsen; and a great granddaughter due in a few weeks and a nephew, Alan Pegg of Angels Camp, Ca.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dean G. Violet; his half-sisters, Irva (Diffin) Pegg and Arlene Simmens; and an infant brother, Ralph Violet.
Bill was a tournament cribbage player and took pleasure in bowling as well. He and Lynn also owned a woodcraft business, Violet Folk Art, together in the Napa Valley in their retirement years.. He enjoyed spending many long hours in his workshop making “sawdust” He loved to read and often read to his grandchildren. Bill loved to barbeque, and the Violets hosted many large family barbeques at their home in Napa. He was a wonderful dad and Papa.
Bill was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his residence in Wellsville his church administered to him at home in respect to his health concerns. They continued to provide him blessings and comfort until his passing.
A lasting legacy from Bill was his deep love for his wife Lynn. They met each other in Seminary during their teens and remained lovingly dedicated to each other for the remainder of their lives. His last wish was that he would be here for her when she passed. He spent 64 years of his life married to and loving his wife, and began his journey home upon her passing.

Anthony J. Vekich, 94, passed away Sunday (July 30, 2017) at Jones Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Vekich was born on June 20, 1923 in Duluth, Minn. to Joseph and Frances (Gerica) Vekich. He was a 1942 graduate of East High School in Superior, Wis. and served in the United States Army in the Asian-Pacific Theater during World War II from 1943-45.
Anthony worked as a supervisor for Kimberly Clark Paper Mill in Niagara Falls for 20 years until the plant shut down. He also served as a union steward during his employment there. In the late 1960’s, Tony moved to Victor and Cripple Creek Colo. where he was a home contractor and remodeled old gold mining hotels. He moved back to Western New York about 25 years ago where he built hunting camps and sold antiques out of his barn.
Tony is survived by two sons, Anthony J. (Roxann) Vekich, Jr. of Fort Meyers, Fla and Steven Vekich of Niagara Falls; one daughter, Charlene Vekich of Niagara Falls; two brothers, Steve (Inez) Vekich of Marietta, Ohio and Frank (Helen) Vekich of Barker and one sister, Neda Francis of Naples, Fla.
Additionally he is survived by 6 grandchildren, Anthony Vekich III, Shawn Vekich, Bridget Cadwallader, Amanda Cobb, Brianna Bonnette and Chandra Fitzsimmons; 14 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Vekich.
Tony was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as the Town of New Hudson supervisor for 14 years beginning in 2002 and actively attended the Bellville Wesleyan Church. Additionally, he was a life member of the NRA.
At his request, there will be no prior visitation. A graveside memorial service with full military honors will be held in the new Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke when the cemetery begins accepting interments beginning in early 2018. Richard D. “Dick” Updyke, 75, passed away Sunday (July 27, 2014), surrounded by family.
Mr. Updyke was born on Aug. 9, 1938 in Greenwood to Waldo and Helen (Goodrich) Updyke. He was a 1957 graduate of Greenwood Central School and later served in the U.S. Army from 1961-63.
Richard was an upholsterer by trade and worked as a supervisor for Gunlocke in Almond for many years. After leaving Gunlocke, he owned/operated Canisteo Custom Upholstery in Canisteo, and then partnered with Esther White at North Main Upholstery in Hornell. He continued his upholstery career with the Allegany ARC in Wellsville, retiring in 2007.
Dick is survived by the mother of his children, Josephine A. Updyke of Hornell; a daughter, Lisa Ann (Stephen) Harrick of Hornell; a son, David Duane Updyke of Hornell; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Joanne Updyke of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Andraya Bartlebaugh, Kathryn Harrick, Michael Harrick and Anna Updyke, all of Hornell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Doris Ann Jackson and a brother, Boyce Updyke.
Dick was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor sportsman. He bred, trained and hunted English Pointers for many years and enjoyed traveling out west to hunt. He was never without a dog during his adult years. He had a deep love of all animals and found his true calling after retirement when he became a licensed Class I NYS Wildlife Rehabilitator. He cared for and raised many different kinds of creatures in this role, but his heart lay with his beloved fawns. He was also a member of the Canisteo American Legion.
Per Dick’s request there will be no prior visitation. A graveside memorial service with full military honors will be held on Aug. 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, NY with Rev. Don Maynard of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church officiating.

Jerry G. Updyke 80, passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 16, 2020) at Highland Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness.
Mr. Updyke was born on May 25, 1940 in Greenwood to Waldo and Helen (Goodrich) Updyke. On April 15, 1961 at the United Methodist Church in Canisteo, he married Joanne M. Ordiway, who survives.
Jerry worked as a mechanic for Town of Greenwood Highway Department for 20 years, retiring in 1994. He also worked as an auto body repairman for Elsenheimer’s and Bud Bush’s Body and Fender Shop, both in Hornell as well as owning his own auto body shop in Greenwood.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Jerry is survived by nine children, Jerry S. Updyke of Greenwood, Michael S. Updyke of Greenwood, Gail M. (Mick Ahearn) Updyke of Greenwood, Linda (Dennis) Loucks of Addison, Julie Hulsey of Greenwood, Thomas Updyke of Greenwood, Ricky (Candace Cornell) Updyke of Greenwood, William (Jen) Updyke of Canisteo and Lynna (Brock) Friends of Greenwood; 28 grandchildren, Amber Tompkins, Amanda Updyke, Britney Updyke, Kasandra Updyke, Natasha (Ryan) Phillips, Ashley (Luke) Szymanski, Trent Ahearn, Mark (Kaitlyn) Ahearn, Sarah (Ryan) Vallieres, George (Niki) Donaldson, Jr., Dustin (Jessica) Updyke, Christopher Dickinson, Christy (Jonathan) Dickinson, Cody (Alisha) O’Dell, Bryce Updyke, Nicholas Updyke, Olivia Updyke, Abigail Updyke, Blake Updyke, Evan Updyke, Reagan Updyke, Alicia Updyke, Bailey Updyke, Brockton Hunt, Jade Hunt, Colton Friends, Mason Friends, and Colin Friends; 39 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Updyke was preceded in death by his siblings Doris Ann Jackson, Boyce Updyke, and Richard Updyke; three grandchildren, Brandon Donaldson, Tiara O’Dell, and Tyler O’Dell; and one great grandson Bryson Hunt. Given his mechanical ability, it’s not surprising that Jerry was a stock car enthusiast and raced his own car, #81, in both Woodhull and Dundee, Pa. He was also an outdoorsman who delighted in fishing and hunting. Seneca Lake was his favorite place for camping. Boating and salmon fishing in 1000 Islands were among his best memories. In giving to those around him, he also found a way to do that outdoors as he served his community for many years as the sexton at Greenwood Cemetery.

Susan J. Tucker (Susie), 61 of 2230 Peet Brook Road, went home to the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015. She fought a short but very difficult battle with cancer.
Susie was born on July 20, 1953 in Coudersport to Robert (Brother Bob) Tucker and Jeannine M. Ditto, who have predeceased her. She graduated from Coudersport High School in 1971 and went on to Williamsport Area Community College to obtain an Associate of Applied Science – Food and Hospitality Management degree in 1977.
Susan was employed at the Austin School cafeteria for 9 years and managed a Sheetz store. She was a partner in “Jim’s Handyman and Cleaning Service” and many other endeavors.
Susie was very devoted to the love of family and friends, hosting many memorable gatherings. She loved to ride the Harley with Jim Thielges, her beloved soul mate, who predeceased her on May 22, 2013.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Julie) Rees of Ore.; a step daughter Michelle (Harry) Manges of Saxonburg; a stepson, Michael (Jess) Thielges of Smethport; a sister Mindy (Karen) Tucker of Fla.; a brother Mike (Sue) Tucker of Olean, N.Y.; five grand children; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; the extended Thielges family; her beloved dog, Harley; and her many friends.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

Kathleen R. Trader, 69, formerly of Batavia, passed away at Manor Hills Assisted Living Residence in Wellsville on Wednesday (Oct. 5, 2016).
Mrs. Trader was born on March 15, 1947 in Batavia to Russell and Ruth (Keidel) Koert, Sr. She was a 1965 graduate of Pembroke High School and later graduated with an accounting degree from Genesee Community College in 1978.On June 25, 1977, she married Albert Trader, who predeceased her on March 1, 1996.
Kathleen had a varied working career. She worked at Salways Hardware in Batavia, where she met her future husband. She also worked for GTE Sylvania in Batavia as a color chassis inspector and for Hodgen’s Engraving, also in Batavia. From 1988 through 1993 she worked as a teller for Liberty Bank (Norstar Bank) in Batavia.
Kathy is survived by a son, Skip Henning of Batavia; one sister, Nancy (Richard) Koert-Ameigh of Audubon, Pa.; one brother, Art (Shirley) Koert of Batavia; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Russell Douglas Henning; one sister, Sylvia Cecere and one brother, Russell Koert, Jr.
Kathy enjoyed knitting, crocheting and craft painting. She used her painting talents to teach a painting class at Manor Hills to many of the other residents. She liked to sing and often plied her talents in the local minstrel show. She was a 51 year member of the Batavia American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 332 where she was past president and past vice-president. Additionally, she was a member of the Quota Club for the hearing impaired, the Variety Club and the Zonta Club. In her earlier years, she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts.
Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.

Michael C. Tobin, 66, passed away Thursday (Aug. 15, 2019) at home.
Michael was born on Nov. 4, 1952 in Hornell to Edward S. and Mariam (Harvey) Tobin.
Mike is survived by two sisters, Maureen Tobin of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla. and Margaret Rogers of Archer City, Tex.; one brother, Edward (Sherry) Tobin of Kentucky; a special niece, Wendy Teasley of New Albany, Pa.; a special friend, Robert Button of Canisteo and his beloved dog, Lacey.
He was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Tobin and a brother-in-law, Gerald Wayne “Tex” Rogers.
Michael lived a life of adversity and had to learn at an early age how to overcome the challenges that can come your way. At the age of two Mike entered into foster care at the Hornell Children’s Home. Over the next 13 years, his home life changed on a regular basis. As a middle teenager he was reunited with his siblings and moved to California to live with his older sister, Kathleen. After her death, he moved back to New York where he lived independently for the next 20 years until recent illnesses required him to give up his trailer and move into an apartment in Alfred.
Throughout his struggles, Mike developed a great sense of humor to put the hard times into perspective. He also learned to appreciate the little things in live. One of his favorite “little things” was to buy a couple of scratch off lottery tickets with his friend Robert and dream bighow they would spend their winnings.
There will be no prior visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Tidd was born on April 10, 1924 in Wellsboro, Pa. to Gordon and Charlotte (Thompson) Steadman. In 1945, she married Kenneth J. Tidd, who predeceased her on May 2, 1997.
Marian dedicated her life to the care of her husband and the raising of her three children.
Marian is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Max) Graves of Andover; two sons, Larry (Debra) Tidd of East Bethany and Rich (Lynn) Tidd of Andover; six grandchildren, Kris (Dennis) Stebbins of Corning, Kenneth (Kayla) Tidd, Joseph Tidd and David Tidd, all of East Bethany, Michael (Tracy) Tidd of Furlong, Pa. and Ashley (Bryan) Glynn of Holiday, Fla.; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marian was fond of travelling and she liked to cook, both very important aspects of the many camping trips she enjoyed with her family over the years.

Catherine L. Taylor, 64, passed away peacefully Thursday (April 27, 2017) at Olean General Hospital. Mrs. Taylor was born on Aug. 31, 1952 in Cuba to Herbert and Marlyn (Sharp) Taylor.
Catherine worked for Friendship Dairy for 30 years until her retirement in 2008

Cathy lived a simple life centered around her family. She cherished the times spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to the next Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthday or cookout where they would all gather at her house for a time of making memories. Whether it was to celebrate a newborn in the family or some other important milestone in the life of her grandchildren, she was always there to help celebrate the day.
Cathy loved animals. Over the years, she provided a loving home to Max and Rebel, her two cats, Harley, her Jack Russell and Hunter, her Golden Retriever. For her personal relaxation, she liked working in her flower garden where she was proud of her tulips, irises and lilacs.

Marjorie C. Swick, 88, passed away Thursday (Jan. 17, 2019) at Wellsville Manor Care Center, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Swick was born on Oct. 28, 1930 in Wellsville to Lewis and Katherine (Rosecran) Ramsell On Oct. 3, 1947 in Friendship, she married William H. Swick, who predeceased her on May 2, 2011.
Marjorie worked as a nurse’s aide for many years, most notably for Cuba Hospital in Cuba and Mary’s Nursing Home in Wellsville.
Marjorie is survived by two sons, Dale Ronald Swick of Tampa, Fla. and Andrew S. Swick of Corning and a daughter, Verna Beth Ritter of Belmont; eleven grandchildren, Shawn Davis, Jeremy Swick, Misty Rockhold, George Bliss, Darcy Lorow, Brandy Swick-Dunn, Brett Swick, Seth Swick, Micah Swick, Tina McRae, and Christopher Gowdy; 21 great grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Kearstin, Tony, Andrew, Shyann, Shyla, Desalyn, Shane, Hope, Devin, Zoe, Bridgette, Keira, Joshua, Shawn, Jacob, Jenna, Brian, Ashley, and Jacob; six great great grandchildren and one more on the way.
Along with her husband of 63 years, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brothers, James Ramsell and Robert Ramsell and her sisters, Laura Sampson, Doris Harrington, and Elizabeth Hurd.
Marjorie found great satisfaction in nurturing her family and being supportive of her husband, who owned Swick and Sons in Friendship for more than 15 years. She was a longtime member of Riverside Assembly of God Church in Wellsville. Most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was deeply devoted to her family.

Elsie A. Swartz, 74, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 8, 2019) at home surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Swartz was born in Nyack on June 13, 1945 to Herman A. and Marie E. (Mills) Koehler. She was a 1963 graduate of Greenwood Central School. On June 10, 1967, Elsie married Donald F. Swartz, who survives.
Elsie received her bachelor’s degree at Alfred State and obtained her Master’s Degree in Music Education at SUNY Fredonia. Her first teaching position was in Troupsburg, where she taught music for three years. After that, she transferred to Wellsville Central Schools where she remained as a music teacher for 40 years, retiring in 2009.
Along with her husband of 52 years, Elsie is survived by her children, Stacey A. Swartz (Rick Clark) of New Market, Md., Kelli (Butch) Niedermaier of Hartsville, and Steven (Alisa) Swartz of Andover; her sisters, June Jennings of Watkins Glen and Kathy Walker (Richard Chamness) of Bradenton, Fla.; her brother, Ken (Karen) Koehler of Greenwood; grandchildren, Alexis Niedermaier, Heather Niedermaier, Logan Clark, Gunner Swartz, Kelsie Niedermaier, Dylan Clark andKohlerNiedermaier; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elsie was a talented musician who could play any instrument. Her favorites were the violin, which she began at age four, the trumpet and the French horn. Elsie was a member of the original Greenwood Central Trumpet Trio, where she played first chair. In the late 1980’s Elsie was inducted into the Mighty St. Joe’s Drum and Bugle Corps and holds the honor of the first woman inductee into their midst. She was honored to serve as a line director which required her to direct a section of the corps. The Mighty St. Joe’s traveled extensively to various venues such as Plymouth Rock and Baltimore, often with the honor of opening shows and events.
During her teaching career, Elsie was known for finding and keeping instruments on hand so that any child who wanted to play would have an instrument without the financial obstacle.
Elsie loved animals, especially horses, miniature donkeys, dogs and cats. She spent many fun hours snowmobiling and four-wheeling with her husband. They also enjoyed watching football together. Her children credit her with giving them a solid upbringing, loving them unconditionally while running a tight ship.
Elsie spent most of her life as a Bills fan. Her son Steven is credited with converting her to a Steelers fan following an amazing experience at a Steeler game in Pittburgh and experiencing Steeler Nation first hand.

Richard S. Suleski, 67, formerly of South Wales, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 13, 2015) at Buffalo VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Suleski was born on May 26, 1948 in Buffalo to Richard A. and Susan M. (Brydalski) Suleski. He was a 1966 graduate of Iroquois Central School in Elma. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968 – 1970 and was awarded a purple heart and bronze star for his bravery. On June 18, 1994, in Arcade, he married Deborah L. Becker, who survives.
Richard worked as a truck driver for Fisher Price in East Aurora for 37 years, until his retirement in 2003.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by five sons, Geoff (Lee) Suleski and James (Rebecca) Papke, both of Delevan, Greg Donovan of East Aurora and Daniel (Cheryl) Papke and Michael Papke, both of Belton, S.C.; one daughter, Elizabeth Turner of Springville; one brother, Donald (Kathy) Suleski of Mooresville, N.C.; two sisters, Maryanne (Roy) Higginbothan of Hudson, Fla. and Susan (Manley) Baer of Wellsville; 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dick had many passions and interests. He was a lifelong sportsman and felt most at peace while hunting, fishing or trapping. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed grilling the steaks at reunions and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. To his sons, he was their hero. He loved his Lord and Savior and lived out his faith through his selflessness and generous spirit. He used his sense of humor to bring a smile and laughter to those around him, even during his recent failing health. Finally, he was a member of the Scio Rod and Gun Club where he enjoyed shooting skeet with his friends.
There will be no prior visitation. The funeral service will be held on Saturday (Oct. 24) at 11:00 a.m. at the Crosstown Alliance Church in Wellsville with Rev. Jeremy Gorham, officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, full military honors will be rendered. Burial will be on Monday (Oct. 26) at 11:00 a.m. at Bath National Cemetery.

Richard A. Suleski, 88, formerly of Scio, passed away on Wednesday (October 1, 2014) at VA of WYN Healthcare in Buffalo.
Mr. Suleski was born on Jan. 17, 1926 in Buffalo to Benjamin and Sophie (White) Suleski. He served in World War II under combat conditions in the European Theater. On October 22, 1947, in Elmira, he married Susan M. Brydalski, who predeceased him on Sept. 23, 2006.
Richard is survived by two sons, Richard S. (Deborah) Suleski of Scio and Donald P. (Kathy) Suleski of Mooresville, N.C.; two daughrers, Maryanne (Roy) Higginbotham of Hudson, Fla, and Susan (Manley) Baer of Wellsville; 14 grandchildren; 25 graet grand-children; and one soon-to-be-born great-great grandchild.

Ronald W. Sugden, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2013) at home, surrounded by family.
Mr. Sugden was born on Jan. 27, 1920 in Walton Ulysses Township, Pa. to Ai Henry and Angeline (Knickerbocker) Sugden. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and experienced extensive action in WW II in Algeria-French Morocco, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded 5 bronze stars. On Feb. 2, 1946, in Whitesville, he married Dorothy E. Stuck, who predeceased him on Sept. 13, 1993.
Ronald worked for Otis Eastern Pipeline in Wellsville for several years. He later worked as a truck driver for Benjamin Smith Trucking in Wellsville for 20 years and also worked for Genesee Township Highway Department.
Ron is survived by three daughters, Bonnie (Joe) Perry of Virginia Beach, Va., Judy (Lewie) Jackson of Wellsville and Barbara Hartlaub of Ulysses, Pa.; one son, Donald (Melissa) Sugden of Whitesville; one brother, Lyle (Eileen) Sugden of Shinglehouse, Pa.; two sisters, Elsie (Leonard) Coleman of Erie, Pa. and Betty Hayes of Lexington, Ky.; a special caregiver and granddaughter, Nicole McMichael; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald W. (Jean) Sugden, Jr.; a son-in-law, Earl Hartlaub; two brothers, Harold Sugden and Howard Sugden; and two sisters, June Costello and Laura Outman.
Ron was a member of the Ulysses American Legion. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch waving at those passing by.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mel Ternes of the Solid Rock Bible Church in Hickox, Pa., officiating. Burial will follow in Genesee Cemetery in Genesee, Pa. with full military honors. He enjoyed camping and canoeing with his older siblings in the Adirondacks.
Philip W. Stout, formerly of Wellsville went to be with his Lord on Sunday (Jan. 5, 2020.) He was born in Wellsville on Feb. 24, 1959 to Allen and Hilda (Church) Stout. He grew up on a dairy farm that also produced maple syrup, and participated in 4-H, and Junior Grange. He was a liturgist and active in youth group at the Christian Temple in Wellsville during high school.
Philip graduated from Wellsville High School in 1977. Throughout high school, he was involved with choir and drama. He was a cast member for productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, and South Pacific and a member of the high school madrigal singers and chorus. He was a Junior National and National Honor Society member.
Philip graduated from Alfred University with a BS in Ceramic Science in 1982. While there, he was in the cast of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate, Androcles and the Lion, The Time of Your Life and several student written productions. He sang with the Alfred University Chorale and a local barber shop group.
Philip worked for Maida Corporation, Hampton, Va., and briefly for Olean Tile in Olean; then he returned to work at Maida Corporation. Philip had a green thumb with house plants and enjoyed gardening. As a single adult, he enjoyed camping and canoeing with his older siblings in the Adirondacks.
Most recently, at First United Methodist Church Foxhill, Hampton, Va. Philip sang in the chancel, taught Sunday School, acted as the chairman of the church council, and as a certified lay servant he served as the lay leader for the church. He attended and helped facilitate Walk to Emmaus groups and was a member of the Peninsula Rainbow Emmaus Community and the Tidewater Emmaus Community.
Philip Stout is survived by his son, Joey (Davida) Stout and grandson, Dustin Stout from Virginia and siblings David (Janet) Stout, Sharon Stout and Shirley (Thomas) Kowalik from western New York and a total of seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral arrangements in Virginia are through Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armstead Ave., Hampton, Virginia. A memorial service will be held in Virginia at the First United Methodist Church Foxhill, Hampton, Va. on Saturday (Jan. 18, 2020) at 11:00 a.m.

Maria A. “Mary” Stevanovic, 90, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 16, 2016) at home, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Stevanovic was born on Feb. 2, 1926 in Tusla, Bosnia (formerly Yugoslavia) to Henreich and Anna Dazer. With the onset of World War II, she was required to relocate to Germany with her family and at the conclusion of the war, moved to England. On Aug. 2, 1951, in Halifax, England, she married Slavko Stevanovic. Maria and her husband eventually settled in Canada and gained their citizenship there. Though she has lived in the United States since 1972, she has proudly remained a Canadian citizen. Slavko predeceased her on Nov. 21, 1996.
Maria is survived by a daughter, Nada (Dennis) Grastorf of Wellsville; a son, Paul (Ann) Stevanovich of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Jasmine (Jered) Heaney and Alicia (Bryan) Brockway, both of Wellsville, Melissa (Joseph) Shafer of Cuba and Milan Stevanovich and Bianca Jimenez, both of Dallas, Texas; and seven great grandchildren, Quinn Heaney, Brody Heaney, Alayna Grastorf, Cooper Brockway, Lydia Brockway, Calvin Shafer and Andrew Shafer.
She was predeceased by all eleven of her brothers and sisters.
Mary, as she was known by most and “Baba” to her grandchildren, was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. She excelled at finding joy in the small things of life. She loved to cook and many of her recipes included that “Old European” flavor. A couple of the family favorites were cabbage rolls and “Baba Chicken”. She had a long and enduring appreciation of classical music.
Mary never possessed a driver’s license but she was content to let others get her to where she needed to go. She loved telling stories, and with such a rich and varied life, she had lots of stories to tell. The highlight of each year, were the annual summer trips she made from her home in Phoenix to visit her family in Belfast. They would often travel to Niagara Falls together or simply spend time making memories at home.
There will be a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeremy Gorham of the CrossTown Alliance Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.

HARTSVILLE – John E. Stebbins, 70, passed away at home on Saturday (Jan. 30, 2021).
John was born on Oct. 14, 1950 in Wellsville to Alfred Duane and Mary L. “Eadie” (Dunham) Stebbins. He was a 1969 graduate of Northern Potter High School.
“Mulie”, as most of his friends called him, worked on a farm for much of his life. He worked on the Rodney Lane Farm in Harrison Valley, Penn. for many years. He also was a farm laborer for Harvey Stebbins Farm and Fitzpatrick Poultry Farms, both in Whitesville.
John is survived by two granddaughters, Paige Stebbins and Lilly Deaton; two brothers, James (Connie) Stebbins of Wellsville and Dean (Darlene) Stebbins of Whitesville; one sister, Vickie Stebbins of Elkton, Md.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Burton L. Stebbins; a sister, Elaine Robbins; and a great niece, Lindsay Marie Stebbins.
Mulie started his life as a “miracle baby.” He was born four months premature and at 2 pounds 2 ounces, surprised most experts by his stubbornness to defy the expectations. His nickname served him well for his life on the farm. John was happy-go-lucky and loved taking a good joke as well as dishing one out. He loved a good meal and the friendships gained around the dinner table.
In his free time, John enjoyed playing cards and was a very good bowler. He played in many tournaments and more than held his own.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, John’s family will hold a Celebration of Life at his brother’s tavern, Just One More in Shongo, at a date and time to be announced later. Sandra K. Spence, 76, a lifelong resident of Friendship, passed away Thursday (Oct. 18, 2018) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Spence was born on Dec. 1, 1941 in Friendship to Gerald O. and Eva M. (Morris) Skinner. She was a 1959 graduate of Friendship Central School and later earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree through BOCES. On July 10, 2010, she married her longtime companion of thirty years, Danny Spence, who survives.
Sandra worked in the ASU Department at Jones Memorial Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in 2010. She previously was a quality control technician for Macler Industries in Friendship.
In addition to her husband, Sandra is survived by two sons, Chris (Maureena) Chamberlain and Marc (Christine) Chamberlain, both of Belmont; two daughters, Holly (Dale) Clark and Cindy Chamberlain, both of Friendship; a step-son, Philip (Jennifer) Spence of Pottstown, Pa.; two sisters, Glenda (Phil) Carlson and Jane (Pete) Woodward; and three brothers, Dale (Barb) Skinner, Dean (Shirley) Skinner and Jack (Michelle) Skinner.
Additionally, she is survived by 13 grandchildren, Lindsey Chamberlain, Emily Chamberlain, Brandy (Robert) Cummins, Rachael (Ryan) Dieter, Nicholas Clark, Shane (Angela) Chamberlain, Joseph Chamberlain, Samantha (Jeremy) Ordiway, Noelle Chamberlain, Levi Chamberlain, Isaac Chamberlain, Daniel Spence and Margaret Spence; 17 great grandchildren; her many Manor Hills friends; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandra had many interests in life and often used those interests as a way to connect with the people that were most important to her. She had a love of reading and shared that love with her mother by swapping with her the many books they read. She enjoyed cooking and became quite famous with one of her specialties, lasagna. Her family fondly remembers many holiday gatherings at the dinner table enjoying the meals she lovingly created.
When it came to outdoor activities, Sandra had many. She enjoyed canoeing, cross country skiing, working her flower garden and motorcycling. There was no better way to spend time with her husband than on the back of his Harley. In many respects, her long career as a nurse and caregiver was a natural extension of how she interacted and spent time with her friends and family and that included her canine chocolate lab Mindy.
Sandra had strength of character that her children admired and they are thankful for the work ethic she built into their lives.
Sandra faithfully attended Genesis Bible Church in Scio and was a member of Friendship Fire Department and Ambulance Squad.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. There will be a private graveside memorial service in Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship at the convenience of the family.

R. Craig Snyder, 87, passed away peacefully Monday (July 21, 2014) at Wellsville Manor Care Center.
Mr. Snyder was born on Feb. 1, 1927 in Andover to Raymond O. and Ila K. (Brown) Snyder. He was a 1945 graduate of Andover Central School and later served in the U. S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 12, 1953, in Hornell, he married Anna M. Osmin, who predeceased him on Oct. 17, 1987. On Sept 28, 1999 he was predeceased by his second wife, Alta Hawks Patton and was widowed a third time with the passing of Dolores “Dodie” Ewart on Sept. 28, 2002.
Craig worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Canandaigua from 1956 until his retirement in 1983.
Craig is survived by two sons, Mark W. Snyder of Canandaigua and Douglas H. (Beth) Snyder of Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Linda S. Galloway of Inman, S.C.; five grandchildren, Scott Galloway, Grayson (Lindsey) Galloway, Megan (Matthew) Bayliff, Laura (Adam) Edwards and Li Yan Snyder; several great grandchildren and a loving companion, Elizabeth Leonard of Andover.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Eileen P. Snyder and Mary C. Snyder; a sister, Nancy S. Auckland and a son-in-law, Cecil Galloway.
Craig was a long time member of the Andover Presbyterian Church. He was a past post adjutant of the Andover American Legion Lynch-Burgett Post #397 and member of the Allegany County Forty & Eight.

Pearl M. Snyder, 93, passed away Saturday (Sept. 10, 2016) at Wellsville Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Snyder was born on Feb. 8, 1923 in Hallsport to Hartwick and Maude (Wilson) Goodridge. She was the 1940 Valedictorian of Andover Central School and later attended Rochester Business Institute in Wellsville; graduating in 1941. On Nov. 22, 1947, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. John Shay officiating, she married Louis H. Snyder, who predeceased her on Jan. 19, 1996.
Pearl worked as a bookkeeper for Woodruff Cheese Co. in Andover from 1942 to 1947. After the wedding, she settled into the role of homemaker. Together with her husband, they owned and operated the Snyder Dairy Farm on East Valley Road for the next 42 years until his retirement in 1989.
Pearl is survived by one sister, Reta (Michael) Holinko; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she was predeceased by two sisters, Wilma Horan and Carolyn Lee Goodridge; and one brother, Gerald “Tony” Goodridge.
Pearl loved working the farm with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and in her relaxed times she liked watching TV.
There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday from noon-2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Elaine Grace Smith, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday (Feb. 9, 2013) at Hart Comfort House in Wellsville, with her husband at her side.
Mrs. Smith was born on Dec. 6, 1938 in Wellsville to Bernard C. and Marguerite G. (Brandes) Fanton. She was a 1946 graduate of Wellsville Central School and later the St. James School of Nursing. In July of 1969, in their future home in Andover, she married Michael J. Smith, who survives.
Elaine worked as a nurse in the operating room of Jones Memorial Hospital for 30 years, until her retirement in 1999.
In addition to her husband of 43 years, Elaine is survived by three sons, Roy Hackett of York’s Corners, Randy Hackett of Andover and Rick Hackett of Canaseraga; two brothers, Donald Fanton and Darrell Fanton; 6 grandchildren, Skyla O’Quinn, Randy (Jackie) Hackett, Jr., Danielle Hackett, Daniel (Stacie) Hackett, Emily Hackett and Autumn Hackett; 10 great grandchildren, Raina O’Quinn, Trinity O’Quinn, Tyler Hackett, Isabella O’Quinn, Maci Hackett, Lennox Hackett, Xavier Baroody, Brayden Ballengee, Luna Hackett and Gunner Hodge.
She was predeceased by a great granddaughter Kambrian Phillips.
Elaine was an avid antique collector. She enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked to read. She and her husband owned ME Thoroughbred Farms where they together bred, raised and sold racing horses, show horses, riding horses and pleasure horses. As passionate as she was about horses, she lovingly devoted her time to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Edward W. Smith, 70, passed away Friday (Dec. 29, 2017) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Mr. Smith was born on March 26, 1947 in Hornell to Donald and Kathryn (McCormick) Smith. He was a 1965 graduate of Andover Central School and later graduated from SUNY at Brockport.
Ed worked as an expeditor for ASEA Brown Boveri in Richmond, Va. for many years.
Ed is survived by a brother, James (Evelyn) Smith of Andover; a sister, Lucille (Dave) Hart of Wellsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Smith, Joseph Smith and Martin Smith; and two sisters, Marcella Schena and Sarah Lehman.
Ed enjoyed travelling and he was an avid golfer.
Per his wishes, there will be no prior visitation. There will be a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (Jan. 6) at 11:00 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover will be at the convenience of the family.

James D. Slocum, 79, passed away Friday (Jan. 15, 2016) at home with his family at his side.
Mr. Slocum was born on June 9, 1936 in Linden to John E. and Shirley (Thornton) Slocum, Sr. His love for animals drew him to be a farmer most of his life.
James is survived by three daughters, Lisa (Gary Cassidy) Snyder of Belfast and Tina Snyder and Laura Snyder, both of Wellsville; four step-children, Tasha Snyder, Theresa Snyder, Jeffrey Pringle, Jr. and MiKaya Pringle; one sister, Gertrude Hall of Caneadea; a long time friend, Diane Snyder of Wellsville; nine grandchildren, David Tanyi, Jessica Snyder, Anthony Snyder, Patricia Tallman, Michael Snyder, Shaune Snyder, Keanu Snyder, Alaina Pringle and Jayden Pringle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a step-mother, Ruth Slocum; one sister, Sylvia Slocum; one brother, John Slocum, Jr.; and one step-son, Michael Pringle.
Jim loved to garden. His children fondly remember there was always a large garden that he carefully tended to provide all sorts of vegetables throughout the summer. He enjoyed reading, especially Western novels. Jim liked to look at the bright side of things. He was always rescuing cats and loved looking after other animals that needed a home. He had a tender heart for his grandchildren. His daughter’s favorite memory was the day he “married” his granddaughter Laura on the front lawn because she loved her “Grandpa Jimmy”. His standard response to “I love you” from his daughters was “You better!”
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at noon immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow in Abbotts Cemetery in Ischua.

She had a keen sense of humor and sharp wit.
Doris Elinor Simpson, 93 entered into rest Sunday (Feb. 10, 2013) at St. James Hospital after a brief stay.
Doris was born on Oct. 23, 1919 in Bath, the daughter of Olin Huffman and Carrie Maude (Young) Simpson. She lived in various western NY communities during her grade school years and then resided in Alfred all but for the last few years of her life when she resided in Hornell at Updyke’s Assisted Living Facility.
Doris graduated from Attica High School and later from Alfred University in 1941. She taught in the Warsaw Public School District for 3 years and then returned to Alfred to work until her retirement in the office of Counseling and Career Services at Alfred University. Along with her brother William Simpson, Doris also owned and managed several rental properties in the village of Alfred.
Doris, who never married, enjoyed her work and also enjoyed traveling and photography. Some of her fondest memories were related to her associations through the Seventh Day Baptist denomination and her adventures and time spent with local Alfred friends Ferne Snyder, Evea Potter, Ruth Glover, Francis Weaver, Gladys Knight, Madeline Burdick, Adelaide Sheldon and Ollene Smith to name a few.
Doris was a member of the Kanakadea/McArthur Order of the Eastern Star, the Alfred/Hornell Association of University Women, and the Alfred First Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Doris amazed her neighbors and friends by climbing the 23 steps to her home on High Street into her 88th year until it burned in 2007. Doris continued to have a sharp mind and excellent recall of her family, past friends and adventures. She loved to reminisce by reading her Alfred History book. She had a keen sense of humor and sharp wit, and until the last week of her life she kept up with it all.
Doris is survived by a sister-in-law Janette Simpson and 3 nephews, Larry Simpson of Texas, and James Simpson and Michael Simpson, both of Colorado and several great nephews and nieces. She is also survived by good friends Thomas Ripple formerly of Hornell and Sandra McGraw of Alfred.
In addition to her parents, Doris was pre-deceased by a sister, Bernice Simpson, and a brother William Simpson.
There will be no prior visitation. The memorial service will be held on Saturday (March 23, 2013) at 2 p.m. at Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church with Rev. Patricia Bancroft, officiating. Burial will be in the Alfred Rural Cemetery.

Henry D. “Hank” Shultz, 58, passed away at his mother’s house Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2018) following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family.
Hank was born on July 23, 1960 in Wellsville to Richard L. and Beverly J. (Newton) Shultz. He was a 1978 graduate of Whitesville Central School.
Hank was a self-employed carpet installer for most of his career. He also installed carpet for Carpet Town in Wellsville and Carpets Unlimited in Belmont for many years.
In addition to his mother, Beverly Shultz of Whitesville, Hank is survived by three sisters, Kelly (Jim) Folts of Independence, Cecile (Dusty) Steadman of Whitesville and Billie (Dave) Burns of Andover; three “special nephews” whom he mentored, Joey Shultz, Ren Folts and Cody Saxton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his father, Richard Shultz, he was predeceased by a brother, Charlie Saxton and his grandfather, Clyde Newton. Hank was an avid outdoorsman. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. As he got older, his pursuit of nature took the form of birdfeeders and walking the creek. He was a longtime member of Whitesville Rod and Gun Club. Hank loved his family and friends deeply. He was especially close with his siblings and together they solved many of the world’s problems. Hank enjoyed the peace and quiet of a nice campfire with his mom and the gathering of his friends around a roaring bonfire. It was the simple things in life that attracted him the most. Spending time with family and friends were the simple things.
Per his wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A “Celebration of Life” event will be held on Saturday (Nov. 10) from 1-5 p.m. at Whitesville Rod and Gun Club.

Patricia A. Shelley, 55, passed away peacefully at home Monday (January 15, 2018) after struggling with chronic illness for many years.
Mrs. Shelley was born on July 1, 1962 in North Tonawanda to Donovan E. and Constance Jane (Copenhaver) Tapley. She graduated from Cuba Central School in 1980. On Mar. 30, 2002, in Jamestown, she married Dirk Shelley, who survives.
Patricia held a variety of positions and occupations during her working years. She spent approximate 15 years as a bank teller, most recently at Steuben Trust Company in Wellsville.
In addition to her husband, Patty is survived by her children, Amber (Jeremy) Clemons of Andover, Douglas (Teresa) Allen of Lake Okeechobee, Fl., Jason Shelley of Greensboro, N. Car., Jamie (Amanda) Shelley of Arkport and Mariah Shelley of Scio; six grandchildren, Gabriel Halsey and Delilah Clemons of Andover, Collin Allen and Matthew Allen of Lake Okeechobee, Fl., and Jamison Shelley and Mila Shelley of Arkport; her brother, Donovan (Suzanne) Tapley of Belfast; her brother-in-law, David Krivulka of Belfast; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Deborah Krivulka in 2017; and a granddaughter, Arianna Allen in 2009.
She was a baptized member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for approximately 40 years. Most recently, she was associated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wellsville, where she devoted a great deal of time and service. Patty enjoyed reading and spending time with people. She found fulfillment in studying the Bible and sharing with others what she had learned. She was a humorous and generous woman, willing to be a help where she could. She loved her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.
According to Patty’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday (February 3) at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 115 Chamberlain St in Wellsville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Funeral Service: Saturday, January 4, 2020 1:00 p.m. Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Wellsville Robert W. “Bob” Shedlock, 75, passed away Sunday (Dec. 29, 2019) at Peregrine Senior Living in Orchard Park following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Shedlock was born on Sept. 29, 1944 in Elmira to Joseph William and Velma (Ameigh) Shedlock. He was a 1962 graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights. He later went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in History from the State University College at Cortland and his Master of Education from Elmira College. On Feb. 18, 1978, he married Sue A. Hamilton, who survives.
Robert worked as a junior high history teacher for Scio Central School for 33 years until his retirement in 1999. He started Learning Center USA and together with his wife, they published creative Social Studies lessons that were used by teachers and students across the United States.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two children, Kristen (Jeff) Wolowitz of Charlotte, N.C. and Michael Joseph (Nancy) Shedlock of Almond; his mother-in-law, Rosabell Hamilton of Hinsdale; a sister, Donna Poteat of Elmira Heights; five grandchildren, Amanda Wolowitz, Angela Wolowitz, Nikolai Wolowitz, Marcus Shedlock and Henrik Shedlock; a niece, Terri (David) Buono; and a nephew, Jim Poteat.
Bob admired a well-manicured yard. He enjoyed the outside work of maintaining his own property whether it was a landscaping project, planting flowers in the spring or sculpting the bushes. A favorite pastime was the neighborhooddrives with his wife around Orchard Park looking at the beautiful custom homes and well maintained yards.
Bob loved his family and centered his life around sharing his personal interests with them. As a teacher with the summers off, Bob enjoyed taking the family on vacations, touring the wide reaches of the United States as well as the more local annual destination of Ocean City. He was a huge sports car enthusiast owning many makes and models through the years. He especially delighted in driving his family in his latest addition. This appreciation for cars fueled his passion as a NASCAR fan. He also passed along to his wife and son his love of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, sharing season tickets with them each year.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Scio/Wellsville. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial service will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio at the convenience of the family. Memorial Service: Sunday, November 3, 2019 5:30 p.m. Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Wellsville Nathan Michael Shaver, 27, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Thursday (Oct. 24, 2019) at home as a result of a ten year battle with drug addiction.
Nathan was born on Nov. 9, 1991 in Tucson, Ariz. and was raised by his mother and step-father, Sara and Neel Geshwind of Scio. He was a 2010 graduate of Wellsville Central School and was currently enrolled in Finger Lakes Community College in their Culinary Arts Program. He was employed as a chef at The Restaurant at New York Kitchen in Canandaigua while also serving his culinary arts internship.
In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by a daughter, Nevaeh Shaver and her mother, Tonei Wilson; a son, Roman Shaver and his mother, Cassie Smith; his father, Johnny Nunez in Jamestown; two sisters, Sara Shaver of Wellsville and Aretha (Gilbert) Gamez of Tucson, Ariz.; his grandmother, Liduvina Maldonado of Puerto Rico; his Aunt Priscilla Nunez of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his Uncle Louis G. Nunez, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several close friends.
Nathan was an avid sports fan. He played basketball and football in high school and cheered for the Philadelphia Eagles and was a big LeBron James fan when he played for the Miami Heat. Nathan also enjoyed listening to music, especially Rap and Hip Hop. He loved his kids and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Nathan will be remembered as a man of strong determination; he was capable of accomplishing anything he set his mind to do. He was very polite, self-confident, very kind and generous and he possessed a loyalty to his friends that was truly outstanding. But in many ways these positive characteristics often covered and masked a troubled side to his long battle with addition. In the midst of his determination to overcome his addiction, Nathan would achieve periods of sobriety and make headway in his desire to make something positive in his life. He was proud of his achievements in his pursuit of becoming a first class chef. He looked forward to his upcoming graduation from the Culinary Arts Program. In the midst of his successes the demons of his addictions would rear their ugly heads over his life and he would once again succumb to their demands. Last Thursday, Nathan lost his battle with drugs.
Nathan’s parents want to sound the alarm, “If our son’s struggles and the colossal battle he had with drug addiction will serve as a warning for those of his friends that are still going through this battle, we want his story known. No parent should bury their child; if you have these same issues plaguing you, please get help.”
Visitation will be held on Sunday (November 3) from 2-5:30 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The memorial service will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeremy Gorham of the Crosstown Alliance Church officiating. Pastor Jeremy was Nathan’s middle school basketball coach. He lived a quiet and simple life.
Jeffery C. Shattuck, 66, passed away Saturday (Jan. 12, 2019) at home due to complications related to his many health conditions.
Mr. Shattuck was born on March 11, 1952 in Brockport to William P. and Pamela (Hancock) Shattuck. He was a 1970 graduate of Brockport High School.
Jeffery is survived by his partner, Rick Schaefer; his son, Justin C. (Anne) Shattuck of Salem, W.V.; his step-father, Denis Bennett of Wellsville; his step-mother, Joan Shattuck of Chili; two sisters, Theresa (Scott Mureddu) Toth-Fleischman of Scio and Pamela A. (Fred Austin) Shattuck of Oramel; one brother, Howard (Robin) Shattuck of Rochester; two grandchildren, Andru G. Shattuck and Jemma C. Shattuck, both of Salem, W.V.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special friends, Jeanie Shattuck-Webb and Tim Gauthier.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Michael Shattuck and Sister-in-Law Carol Shattuck.
Jeffery suffered from many medical conditions and as a result he has been disabled for many years. He lived a simple and quiet life. He loved the company of his cat, Baby. In his younger days he starred and was captain on the Brockport Blue Devils football team wearing jersey #74.
There will be no prior visitation. There will be a graveside service in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Brockport at a date to be determined. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Louanne R. Serra, 71, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in Bath.
Mrs. Serra was born on July 8, 1948 in Boonville to Carlisle and Helen (Brown) Grower. She attended Adirondack High School in Boonville and afterward obtained an Associate’s degree at Alfred State College. On March 17, 1974 at the Christian Temple Church in Wellsville, Louanne married Mark A. Serra.
Louanne devoted her life to the care of her husband and family.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Louanne is survived by a daughter, Michelle (Philip) Hall of Bath and two sons, Todd (Heather) Serra of Irondequoit and Timothy (Kim) Serra of Boonville; grandchildren Brittany Hall , Amanda (Stephen) Hall, Aaron Hall, Dustin Post, Shawn Serra, John Donath, Kendalle (Jarry) Serra, Gregory Thomas and Adam Serra; great grandchildren Stephanie Simpson and Jackson Odebralski; several nieces, newphews and cousins, and her dear friend Karen Ormsby of Andover.
Mrs. Serra was predeceased in death by an infant daughter, Tamara Freeland; her brother Carlisle Grower, Jr. and her sister, Constance Grower.
Louanne had a love of reading and while any genre was welcome to her, she particularly liked science fiction, romance, and westerns; her favorite author was Louis L’Amour. She was a frequent patron of the Box of Books and the Book Barn in Alfred and she happily shared her own books with friends and family. She loved porcelain Native American and Victorian dolls and also collected owl figurines. She appreciated genealogy and spent time researching the family heritage. She was known as the neighborhood mom, as local kids spent time at their home and in their driveway playing basketball. It was her greatest joy to spend time with her family even down to the youngest great grandchild.
Louanne was active in the Baptist Church choir and regularly participated in the Women’s prayer retreats.
Visitation for Mrs. Serra will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. A memorial service will be held at 5:00, also at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Calvin Densmore of the Andover Baptist Church.

William T. “Bill” Schwenk, 63, passed away Thursday (Sept. 8, 2016) at home.
Mr. Schwenk was born on May 22, 1953 in Buffalo to Casper and Margaret (Kemp) Schwenk. On Oct. 10, 1992 in Bolivar he married Melissa Prentice, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two sisters, Margaret Flynn of Martinsburg, W.V. and Rosemary Schwenk of Buffalo; and one brother, Norman Schwenk of Orchard Park; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Albert Schwenk, Donald Schwenk and Richard Schwenk.
Bill enjoyed listening to Country and Western music and he was an avid walker. In his younger days, he liked to bowl. Bill was a member of the Alden Volunteer Fire Department and was a Salvation Army volunteer. His favorite pastime though was hanging out with his friends at Highland Health Services. He will be deeply missed.
There will be no prior visitation. The memorial service will be held on Friday (Sept. 16) at 3:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse, Pa.

Richard C. Schrader, 92, passed away Saturday (July 6, 2013) at Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville, surrounded by family.
Mr. Schrader was born on Aug. 8, 1920 in Wellsville to Carl A. and Anna (Bennett) Schrader. He was a 1937 graduate of Wellsville High School. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during WWII as a radar man for weather missions over Japan, Mariana Islands and Tinian Island. He flew on a B-29 Flying Fortress under the command of General Hap Arnold in the Pacific Theater. On Jan. 17, 1948, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Hornell, he married Sarah Piampiano, who predeceased him on Jan. 14, 2011.
Richard worked as a cost accountant for Worthington (Turbo Dyne) in Wellsville for 50 years from 1937 until his retirement in 1987. Additionally, he served as Andover Town Justice of the Peace from 1971 until 2002 and at that time received an Honorary Certificate for Magistrate from New York State, for which he was very proud.
Dick is survived by a daughter, Pamela (George) Slack of Ontario, NY; two sons, Richard (Marlene) Schrader of Venetia, Pa. and Carl Schrader of Andover; six grandchildren, Paula (Michael) Doyle, Kristen (Mark) Schichtel, Jeremy Slack, Rachel (Aaron) Armstrong, Richard (Meghan) Schrader, and Cameron Schrader; four great grandchildren, Nina Doyle, Lilly Doyle, Elijah Schichtel, and Jonah Schichtel; two special nieces, Barbara Raines of Wellsville and Beverly McTarnaghan of Bonita Springs, Fla.; his beloved cat, Joey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he was predeceased by one brother, Arthur Schrader; and three sisters, Louise Hazzeltine, Margaret Umiker and Marion Boyce.
Dick was an avid golfer, especially during his retirement years. In his younger days, he loved hunting and fishing. He bowled on the Alfred Bowling League every Wednesday for over 30 years and was very fond of playing cards. He and his wife were passionate Yankee fans. He also was an Andover Little League baseball coach and an Andover Boy Scout leader.
Dick was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a member of the Andover Fire Department, where he was a past president and served on the executive board. Additionally, he was a member of the Andover Rescue Squad, Andover American Legion, Andover Lions Club and the Andover Fourth of July Committee, where he was honored as the Grand Marshall of the 50th year anniversary parade.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover with Rev. Thomas Roman as celebrant. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
