SCIO – Belinda Sue Thompson, 54, passed away on Sunday (April 5, 2026) at home surrounded by family.

Belinda was born on August 24, 1971 in Corning to James L. Briggs and Brenda L. Rogers Keeney. She was a 1989 graduate of Corning East High School and enlisted on her 18th birthday to serve in the United States Army. On September 21, 1996 at the Grace Lee Memorial Wesleyan Church in Catlin she married Robert G. Thompson, who survives.

Belinda loved being a wife and mother, choosing to devote herself to the task of caring for and raising her family. In recent years she worked as a librarian for Scio Memorial Library and as office manager for Proto and Proto Dental in Wellsville.

In addition to her husband of 29 years, Belinda is survived by five children, Kristen (Daniel) Esposito of Ballston Spa, Garrett (Kylie) Thompson of Buffalo, Victoria (Khalid) Bawaliz of Albany, and Nora Thompson and Lawson Ector, both of Scio; her mother, Brenda Keeney of Corning; her father, James Briggs of Riverside; a sister, April Briggs of Riverside; four brothers, Adam (Brian Riggs) Briggs of Corning, Tim Briggs of Riverside, Justin Briggs of Riverside and James Briggs of Corning; a step-sister, Robin (Kevin) West of Beaver Dams; one very adorable granddaughter, Nina Esposito; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her step-father, James Keeney.

Belinda loved everything family. She cherished her role as a wife and mother. The big meals around the holidays and the hustle and bustle of the many activities animated her and filled her with joy and pride. She was her children’s greatest cheerleader at all the school sporting events. Whether it was softball, basketball, soccer, volley ball, cheering competition or track, she was determined to be the loudest fan in the bleachers, cow bell and all. It was only during the chess tournaments she had to learn to cheer her kids on in silence – NOT an easy task.

When it came to family fun night, Mom was all in. There was no taking it easy on husband and kids alike and the competition was often spirited. Belinda enjoyed the mini-farm life with the dogs, cats and many farm animals that needed her attention.

Belinda enthused energy, vibrancy and positivity. She was giving and caring and when she entered a room, she was full of life and captured everyone’s attention in a way that only she could.

Visitation will be on Saturday (April 11) from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. 1. The mom the myth the legend, working by your side was one of the best opportunities I’d ever had! Your smile is contagious, and your soul even more so. I’ll never forget the day you came to my work just to make sure I was alright after losing a friend, and my brother! You’ll never be forgotten ever, from girl scouts to adulthood you were always so supportive and kind to me!
