David L. Eno

March 31, 1942 - May 29, 2026

David Lynch Eno, longtime resident of Purcellville, VA, died peacefully surrounded by his family on May 29, 2026 at the age of 84.

David was born March 31, 1942 in Hornell, NY. He was a resident of Andover, Canton and Wynantskill, before moving to Virginia in 1979. David was a veteran of the U. S. Army Reserves from 1964-1969. He was very proud of his work as Assistant Prison Commissioner for the state of New York and Press Secretary for congressmen in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. He worked until his retirement in 2009 at the National Credit Union Administration as a Federal Investigator of bank fraud.

As a child David was inspired by the Titanic and the story of Captain Lord of the Californian. Captain Lord was improperly blamed for the deaths of 1,522 Titanic passengers for not giving aid while Titanic sunk. Survivors claimed that there was a “mystery ship” on the horizon that was believed to be the Californian. Lord also saw a ship on the horizon at that same time. It turns out that there were four ships on the sea that night; Titanic, Californian, Samson and an “unnamed medium sized steamer”. Due to the curvature of the Earth Titanic and Californian could not have seen each other that night. Samson was seen by Titanic and the unknown steamer was seen by Californian. David traveled to Iceland and found surviving witnesses to corroborate the story of the Samson. It was not until Samson returned to port and saw the headlines that they realized what they had witnessed. Although Captain Lord was long since dead, his son Stanley Lord was notified that his father had been vindicated just before his death in 1994. Only in David’s initiative to clear Capt. Lord’s name was it ultimately successful.

David was a man of the people; he was active in local politics, in his church Bethany United Methodist Church and with American Legion Post 293. He served his God well, directly, and through serving God’s people. David was a popular man with a good sense of humor, world famous for sensational stories of adventure and hijinks.

David is survived by his wife of 19 years Elizabeth Landon Carter Delaney, his two children Daniel Eno of Sterling, VA and Mary Eno of Los Angeles, CA, two step children Landon Sorensen and Kimberly McCue both of Alexandria, VA, eight grandchildren, Zander, Zenith, Crown, Zara, Eleanor, Abigail, Maxwell, Tristan and his dog Riley.

David was predeceased by his mother Regina Eno, father Richard Eno, Sr., brothers, Richard “Smokey” Eno and Reginald Eno, and a sister Jeannette Coye.

Your presence has been felt by many and you will be missed. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
