Lorilee A. Harris

August 5, 1954 - May 23, 2025

WELLSVILLE – Lorilee Ann Harris, 70, formerly of Kelowna, British Columbia, entered the presence of the Lord, on Friday (May 23,2025) surrounded by her children, at the Hart Comfort House following a long battle with cancer.

Lorilee was born in Taber, Alberta on August 5, 1954 to Pastor Lymon E. and Lila V. (Peterson) Jones. She graduated from Lord Tweedsmuir High School in Surrey, B.C. in 1972.

Lorilee worked as a postal clerk for Canada Post in Kelowna, British Columbia from 1987 until her retirement in 2016. During this time, she owned her own cleaning business, serving local businesses and along the way made close friends with the people she worked for. For several years she served as a Host Home hostess to many kids who came to call her “mom”. Throughout her working career she prided herself in always being a homemaker to her kids first and foremost.

Lorilee is survived by her four children, Maria Chand of Wellsville, Robert Harris and Kyle Collins, both of Kelowna, B.C, and Anthony (Meghan) Harris of Wellsville; her very close and dear sister, Lynnette Fruson of Kelowna, B.C; four grandchildren, Mackie, Astrid, Freya, and Henry; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by the father of her eldest two children, John Harris; three siblings, Luther, Lauria, and Lorne and a special niece Louise.

Although Lorilee lived most of her life in Canada, she was quick to make many dear friends after moving to Wellsville. She liked the small-town sleepiness and seeing familiar faces when going out for errands. She frequently commented she certainly didn’t miss the traffic from out west, which always held her ire.

Lorilee appreciated a good cup of coffee and if made right would always declare it ‘delicious’ after taking a sip. She often got her kids coffee and doughnuts, particularly honey crullers from Tim Hortons after work; who also inherited her love of coffee.

Lorilee loved doing puzzles with her morning breakfast while listening to music. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers in the spring. She was a keeper of chickens and called them ‘her girls’. Lorilee loved cherries and could tell you the difference just by looking at them. She was always able to pick out the best summer fruit.

Lorilee had a special fondness for old homes and lighthouses. After moving to Wellsville, she made two childhood dreams come true; owning a true Victorian home and getting to visit her favorite lighthouse, Portland Head Light, in Maine with her son Rob.

Lorilee was best known for her motherly role and was quick to take on the name of mom to the many children that entered her life. She loved easily and freely and kept in close contact with many of the children she worked with over the years. Her natural state was that of a caregiver and those around her benefited from this love. She would always say family was the most important thing to her.

Her children fondly remember the many impromptu trips to Dairy Queen for ice cream–she always got a pecan mudslide. She took them across Canada and the United States to see her many family and stop at the national parks along the way. She liked to invite her kids to take drives around the city, when they would ask where they were going she would simply respond, “Going crazy, wanna come?”

Lorilee was a proud member of the church her father founded, Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Kelowna, B.C. and more recently Wellsville Bible Church. At both she was an active member of Bible studies, children’s church and VBS.

A memorial service will be held at Wellsville Bible Church on Sunday (June 1) at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Kenyon, officiating. She will be laid to rest with her parents at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kelowna, B.C. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio.

The Harris family extends their deep gratitude for the compassionate and capable care offered to Lorilee during her final days. Memorial contributions in Lorilee’s name may be offered to Hart Comfort House of Allegany County, 141 East State Street, Wellsville NY 14895.
