MATTHEW A. FARNUM

NORTH FORT MYERS, FL – Matthew A. Farnum, formerly of Andover, passed away on Thursday (March 10, 2022) while battling cancer.

Mr. Farnum was born on May 22, 1970 in Hornell to Duane L. and Joyce A. (Austin) Farnum. He was a 1990 graduate of Andover Central School. Most recently, Matthew worked as a sales associate at Walmart in Hornell. He also worked at Unimart in Andover and he worked in food service at Alfred University

Along with his mother, Matt is survived by his sister, Doreen (Ron) Schommer of Knoxville, Tenn.; two nieces, Abby Schommer of Knoxville, Tenn. and Raylyn Schommer of Wolcott; a nephew, Ryin Schommer of Wolcott; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Farnum and his grandparents, Leighton and Lucille Austin, and Luther and Hazel Farnum.

Matt loved camping of any sort, whether roughing it in a tent or living the high life in a camper. Favorite local spots for him included Watkins Glenn with his mom and Alfred Lake Lodge permanent sites, where his grandparents, his parents, and he all had their own spots sharing the experience together.  These were his most cherished memories; the ones he frequently visited.

He was a solitary soul who loved the outdoors. He delighted in the sights and sounds of nature. He was entirely content to sit on his porch observing and listening to the birds or even the rumble of thunder during a storm. Matt led a quiet life and enjoyed the simple pleasures to be had.

A private service will be held at the convenience of Matt’s family, followed by burial in Maplewood Cemetery in Alfred Station. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Andover. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

Memorial contributions in Matt’s name may be made to Cancer Services of Allegany County, 100 South Highland Avenue, Wellsville NY 14895. © 2022 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.

Services to be held at the convenience of the family.
