Philip J. Dodge

August 25, 1948 - March 18, 2026

ALFRED – Philip J. Dodge, 77, passed away on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) at home following a short illness.

Philip was born on August 25, 1948 in North Hornell to Paul and Mary (Burkhart) Dodge. He was a 1966 graduate of Hornell High School. On May 7, 1988 he married Kathryn Gorsuch, who predeceased him on September 12, 2001.

Phil was a construction foreman for Certified Traffic Controllers in Andover for many years. He previously worked for A.L. Blades in Almond and finished his working career with Otis Eastern in Wellsville, retiring in 2011.

Phil is survived by three sons, James (Debbie) Dodge of Webster, Philip (Kathy) Dodge, Jr. of Victor and Michael (Tonya) Dodge of Arcade; seven grandchildren, Madison Dodge, Gianna Dodge, Ryan Dodge, Ally Dodge, Makayla Dodge, Jordan Dodge and Brady Dodge; a close friend and caregiver, Rob Morris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Jim Dodge and Paul Dodge and a sister, Barbara Dodge.

Phil was passionate about hunting. He enjoyed the quiet of the outdoors and the camaraderie of his hunting buddies. A favorite memory of his son was the lesson of how to track a deer. The lesson ended with a 10-point buck.

Phil was a big man with an even bigger heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great gift of gab. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his friends. Phil had a tender side as well. He especially loved spending time with his mother.

In high school Phil was a force to be reckoned with; both on the football field and baseball diamond. He never missed his sons’ high school sporting events. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

Over the last 20 years of his life, Phil discovered a relationship with Jesus Christ. Church became an essential component of his life as he strove to grow in his faith.

Visitation will be held on Monday (March 23) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. A grave side service will be held later in the year at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

  4. Phil was a close friend of mine from childhood. We grew up together hunting , fishing and dating girls in our younger years. We maintained our friendship over the last 65 yrs . I spoke to him on the phone three days prior to his departure into the presence of God. I had the privilege and blessing of the Lord to share the Gospel of Christ with Phil and his wife Kathy prior to her passing in 2001. Thank God for his grace and mercy. They both accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and now together in heaven; a place beyond our human comprehension to accurately describe where there is no time or space. Thank you Rob for loving and taking care of my dear friend. Comfort and blessings be upon Phil’s family and friends
