William F. Griffith

October 24, 1940 - October 22, 2023

OLEAN — William F. “Bill” Griffith, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.

William was born on October 24, 1940, in Humphrey, New York, to Roy J. and Dorothy M. (Chapman) Griffith. On May 19, 1961, he married the love of his life, Leola P. Cook, who predeceased him on May 2, 1994. Together, they were blessed with six children. On May 1, 1995, William married Sandra Budinger, who survives him.

Bill spent much of his life living and working in New York State. He was employed for several years by the former Sterling Furniture Company in Jamestown and also worked for the railroad for many years. William and Sandra later lived in Florida, where he worked in the maintenance department of a nursing home.

Family was very important to Bill, and he cherished the time he spent with those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with Sandra, cheering on the Buffalo Bills, and sharing good meals with family—especially prime rib at Sprague’s. He will be remembered for the many memories he created with his family and the people whose lives he touched.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, William (Kendra) Griffith, Brian (Amie) Griffith, Lori (John) Vine, Patty Kitchell, Keith (Darlene) Snyder, Larry (Amber) Snyder, Tammy Snyder, Tracy Snyder, and Billy Joe (Amanda) Snyder; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Benjamin Griffith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark (Lisa) Budinger; sister-in-law, Darlene Lee; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Leola, Bill was predeceased by his sons, Wayne Griffith and John Griffith; his brothers, Leo Hadley and Roy Griffith; and his sisters, Myrtle Carr and Mildred Reagle.

A private celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest on August 15, 2026, beside his first wife, Leola Griffith, and his sons, Wayne and John Griffith, at Yorks Corner Cemetery in Willing, New York.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Baker-Swan Funeral Home for their care and assistance.

Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
