Mike Childs

December 6, 1961 - March 3, 2023

WELLSVILLE – Mike Childs, 61, went to be with his Savior late Friday night (March 3, 2023) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a short illness.

Mr. Childs was born on December 6, 1961 in Hornell to Lena L. (Cole) Hackett. He was raised by his mother and his maternal uncle, Irwin W. Cole. Mike graduated from Wellsville High School in 1980, and lived for a time in Binghamton.

Mike is survived by his stepfather, Therald “Bud” Hackett of Wellsville; a sister Karla (Alan) Hills of Wellsville; one nephew, Cory Hills of Friendship; two nieces, Tiffany Hills of East Aurora and Valerie Hills of Wellsville; a close cousin, Dale Burgess of Wellsville; and Milo, his big yellow, fluffy, feisty cat.

Along with his mother, Mike was preceded in death by two uncles, Irwin W. Cole and Walter P. Cole and two aunts, Alice A. Van Druff and Phyllis R. Cole.

Mike lived many dreams in his lifetime. Every day was an adventure for him. He lived life on his own terms and in his own way, that was so cool.

Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and loved praying and reading his Bible. He particularly desired to pray for those who needed healing. He delighted in going to church activities and attended three services each week. He attended services at Knights Creek Church and Restoration Church of Christ, both in Scio. He was happy to bring goodies to the pot luck dinners and for the children.

There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held on Friday (March 10) at 2:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Scio/Wellsville, officiated by Mike’s nephew, Cory Hills. Burial will occur at Knight’s Creek Cemetery in the spring. © 2023 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.

  1. I am so sorry for the family of Mike. He was such a joy to be around. I remember when I moved from where he was living, he wanted to give me some homemade goodies and he made it a point to always include me. He was so kind, and he loved people the Lord Jesus Christ and he gave life his best with being kind to animals and people. I liked what was said that Mike lived life on his terms. That was him to a tee. I was so honored to spend a little time around Mike. My deepest sympathies to the family and prayer for all of their comfort. This is such a true loss.
