Marilyn J. Brantley

April 25, 1941 - March 2, 2023

BELFAST – Marilyn J. Brantley, 81, passed away Thursday (March 2, 2023) at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.

Mrs. Brantley was born on April 25, 1941 in Cuba to Clifford W. and Alice R. (Thornton) Magee. She graduated from Belmont Central School in 1958. On October 30, 1982 she married Joe Reece Brantley who preceded her in death on December 31, 1996.

Marilyn was self-employed and while she lived in Louisiana, she sold produce. She also worked at Walmart while there as well as Walmart in Olean. Marilyn owned My Place Restaurant and Deli in Angelica.

Marilyn is survived by two sisters, Mary E. Swendson of Caneadea and Mavis A. France of Belfast; as well as a dear niece, Katie Collins of Belfast, along with several additional nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Marjorie E. Palmer, Marie E. Young, Maxine E. Beckwith, Marguerite A. Magee, Dale W. Magee, Gary L. Magee, and infant brother Phillip Magee.

Marilyn was truly content in the outdoors. She spent countless hours gardening and especially delighted in her many varieties of flowers. She was happy to mow her yard while enjoying the sunshine. She also took care of the local wildlife by feeding the birds, deer, woodchucks and even, occasionally, a bear or two.

Her indoors hours were occupied with reading, primarily mystery novels.

Marilyn was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Belfast.

Friends and family may call at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio on Thursday (March 9) from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Marilyn’s funeral service will be held immediately after at 1:00 at the funeral home, with Fr. Dennis Mancuso officiating. Burial will follow at Until the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica.
