Thalia Y. Finegold

July 3, 1960 - August 14, 2024

GREENWOOD – Thalia Y. Finegold, 64, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (August 14, 2024) at Hart Comfort House of Allegany County in Wellsville.

Thalia was born on July 3, 1960 in Wellsville to Donald J. and Irene B. (Haxton) Edwards. She was a 1978 graduate of Greenwood Central School. On June 19, 2004, up on the farm in Greenwood, she married Samuel P. Finegold, who survives.

Thalia worked as a security guard for Securitas AB where her duties were primarily for Alstom in Wellsville.

In addition to her husband, Sam, of 20 years, Thalia is survived by four siblings, Susan Stevens, Starlith (Alex) Farrell, Theresa Burdick and Brian (Janet) Edwards and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Dale Edwards; one sister, Valerie Heckman and two brothers-in-law, Greg Stevens and Greg Burdick.

Thalia took pleasure in writing, primarily short stories and poetry. On the flip side, she was a prolific reader as well. She was a crafter, investing most of her efforts into jewelry-making. Thalia also loved to paint with humming birds, barns, Garfield and Disney characters being some of her favorite subjects.

She enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers. Thalia raised chickens and nurtured several fur babies over the years.

Thalia attended Wellsville Bible Church along with Sam, where she participated in the ladies’ group and was dearly loved. She enjoyed spending time with people and was thankful for the many loving relationships she had.

Thalia was a flamboyant personality with a wry sense of humor. She loved to laugh and she loved life. She didn’t love the electric service on “the hill,” her frequent nemesis.

But Thalia had two true-loves in life. First, her husband, Sam. She was truly grateful for their many years of love and companionship; and thankful for his sweet gifts, handyman skills and wonderful cooking. She wrote to him, “I will always love you and thank God you are in my life.”

And then there was Jesus. Her gratitude for all he did for her was evident. She boldly proclaimed, “I am so glad God has freed me from trying to be something I was never meant to be! It takes courage to be the way you were made.”

Thalia had her share of difficulties and trials, but she once posted, “I wish to leave this world with joy, not sorrow or sadness.” Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

A time of visitation will be held on Friday (August 23) from 5-7 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. Her memorial service will be on Saturday (August 24) at 1:00 p.m. at Wellsville Bible Church with Pastor Daniel Kenyon officiating. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

  1. Sam: Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. She definitely was the love of your life! I can only imagine the stories you two could tell about each other. I remember you telling me about the home cooked meals you prepared, and the woodwork you created. My prayers are with you as you move through the next few days and after.
