Brenda S. Gill

February 25, 1962 - November 28, 2022

ANDOVER – Brenda S. Gill, 60, passed away on Monday (November 28, 2022) at home following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Gill was born on February 25, 1962 in Coudersport, Pa. to William F. and Linda A. (George) Smith. She was a 1980 graduate of Andover Central School. She later earned her Bachelor of Science from SUNY Geneseo in 1984. On August 22, 1987, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover, she married Richard L. Gill, who survives.

As a coach’s wife, Brenda devoted her life as the supporting role in her husband’s career and to the raising of her family. Before the start of the family, she worked for Sure Fine in Alfred as their head cashier. In later years, she was a substitute teacher at Andover Central School.

In addition to her husband of 35 years, Brenda is survived by her son, Patrick F. Gill of Andover; her daughter Adrienne C. (Tyler) Whitesell of Rochester; her father and mother, William F. and Linda A. Smith of Spring Hill, Fla.; two brothers, Gregory (Melanie) Smith of Atlanta, Ga. and Jeffrey (Leslie) Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a grandson, Rory Whitesell of Rochester; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brenda embraced the life of a coach’s wife. She was often the score keeper for many of Andover Central School sporting events and ran the concessions stand for home games. Over the years, she served as class advisor and was very involved in school activities. She and Rich shared a mutual love for sports. Many of the vacations they took were to places like New York City, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Toronto and Cleveland and had a Major League Baseball game as part of the package. She and Rich also enjoyed cheering for the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bills.

At home, Brenda was “General in Chief” of the Gill home. If something was going on, she was the one making it happen. She loved organizing the family vacations to Disney World; also, a return to the scene of their honeymoon. Brenda was very involved in the lives of her children, participating in their many school functions and sporting events. She always had time to dote on her grandson, Rory. And during the quieter moments of life, Brenda enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and testing her knowledge of trivia through Trivia Pursuit and Jeopardy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday (December 29) from 4-7 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Her memorial service will be held on Friday (December 30) at 11:00 a.m. at the Andover Presbyterian Church with Rev. Christian Mattison officiating.
