Gordon James Laufer

January 4, 1950 - May 16, 2024

FRIENDSHIP – Gordon James Laufer, 74, passed away on Thursday (May 16, 2024) at home following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Laufer was born on January 4, 1950 in Buffalo, NY. He grew up in the town of Tonawanda with his parents Albert A. and Letha I. (Lapier) Laufer. He attended Kenmore East High School and later earned his GED. He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1978.

Gordon worked in assembly at Spaulding Fiber in Tonawanda for many years.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Linda (Rothe) Laufer of Tonawanda; two daughters, Anne (Michael) Railey and Donna Laufer, both of Huntington, W.V.; one brother, David (Barbara) Laufer of Tonawanda; two sisters, Joyce (Mark) Burr of Tonawanda and Karen (Larry) Henn of Pendleton; his Aunt Reta Martin of Lisbon; four grandchildren, Shauna Railey, Christopher Railey, Caitlin Railey and Kieleigh Railey; two great grandchildren, Karigan Railey and Maverick Railey; three nieces, Andreea Burr, Erika Burr and Kristine (Steven) Browning; one nephew, Eric (Sandy) Henn; and two great nephews, Lucas Henn and Elliott Henn.

He was predeceased by both of his parents.

Gordon loved the outdoors and the rural life. This was the reason he moved to his log home in Allegany County. He was an excellent cook, often making fried green tomatoes that others raved over. Gordon was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and loved watching the races with his friends.

Gordon was very patriotic and loved his country. For many years he hosted a Fourth of July party. He would go out of his way to ensure everyone was happy and having a wonderful time. He was never afraid to tell someone that he loved them. He enjoyed birthdays and often celebrated them by treating them for dinner.

Gordon was a long-time member of the Milton J. Brounshidle Post 205 American Legion in Kenmore and the Amvets in Friendship.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Saturday (June 8) at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ in Tonawanda with Rev. Elizabeth Duffy officiating.
