James A. Montgomery

LITTLE GENESEE – James A. Montgomery, 77, passed away on Wednesday (October 12, 2022) at Bath VA Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Montgomery was born on September 19, 1945 in Oneonta to Alden Welsey and Edna Gertrude (Davis) Montgomery. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963-1966. On September 17, 1994, he married Patricia A. Mascho, who predeceased him on June 18, 2014.

James was a long-distance truck driver from the time he left the Army in 1966 until his retirement in 2009. He drove for J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. of Rochester, Shaffer Trucking in New Kingstown, Pa. and most recently Midwest Continental, Inc. of Sioux City, Iowa.

Jim is survived by four daughters, Casandra Montgomery, Tamara Montgomery, Jaime Irene Montgomery and Katie Marie Montgomery; 12 grandchildren; a special niece, Kimberly Montgomery of Newton, N.C.; several step-brothers and step-sisters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Amber Montgomery and three brothers, his twin brother John Montgomery, Butch Montgomery Schrader and Donald Montgomery.

Jim was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed watching radio-controlled air planes. He also was a ham radio operator and like attending the local racecar events.

Jim was a life-long member of the Eldred American Legion Post 887 and the Eldred VFW Post 2092 and a long-time member of the Zoar Valley HOG.

There will be a time of visitation on Sunday (October 16) from 3-5 p.m. at the Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Marc Chamberlain of the Genesis Bible Church in Scio officiating. Full military honors will be rendered at the funeral home by the combined Wellsville and Andover American Legion and the United States Army. Burial will follow in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.  © 2022 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
