Julie Ann Hulsey

September 8, 1968 - October 21, 2024

GREENWOOD – Julie Ann Hulsey, 56, passed away on Monday (October 21, 2024) at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Julie was born on September 8, 1968 in Hornell to Jerry G. and Joanne M. (Ordiway) Updyke. She attended Greenwood Central School and later earned her GED.

Julie worked many years as a caregiver. Previously she worked in the pipeline industry for Midwest Pipeline.

Julie is survived by her son, Cody (Alisha) O’Dell of Westfield, Pa.; her mother, Joanne Updyke of Greenwood; her former husband and good friend, Stephen Hulsey; five brothers, Mike Updyke, Billy (Jen) Updyke, Thomas Updyke, Ricky (Candace) Updyke and Jerry (Carla) Updyke; three sisters, Linda (Dennis) Loucks, Gail (Micky) Ahearn and Lynna (Brock) Friends; eight grandchildren, Alanis O’Dell, Everett O’Dell, Stephen White, Colt O’Dell, Weston O’Dell, Braxton O’Dell and Grayson O’Dell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a daughter, Tiara O’Dell; a son, Tyler O’Dell; and the father of her children, Ricky O’Dell.

Julie enjoyed the simple things of life. She loved the outdoors and tending to her flowers. She cherished the times spent with family playing BINGO and cards. A favorite memory of her son Cody was the going away celebration she planned on the occasion of his entry into the Army, complete with food, family and friends. It was her way of saying “I love you son and I’m proud of you.”

Julie was a big sports fan. She followed closely NASCAR, the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. She also enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to her country or classic rock music. Elvis was by far her favorite artist. And given the opportunity to travel, she and Steve would hit the road for places like Phoenix, Arizona or Vallejo, California.

Per her wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Sunday (November 3) at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Greenwood Fire Hall at 1:00 p.m.
