GREENWOOD – Marcia K. Galton, 77, passed away on Wednesday (December 14, 2022) at her home following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family.
Marcia was born on July 13, 1945 in Wayland to Stephen R. and Beatrice I. (Finch) Mitchell. She was a 1965 graduate of Wayland Central School. On November 23, 1968, she married James H. Galton, who survives.
Marcia devoted her life as a homemaker to her husband and two children. She also spent much of her time caring for the elderly and disabled.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, Marcia is survived by two daughters, Belinda Emerson (Larry) of Wellsville; Becky McCaffrey (Jay) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Ronnie Mitchell (Mary) of Ossian; two sisters, Linda DiSalvo of Dansville and Sandy Emery of S.C.; three grandchildren, Daniel Stanton (Claudia), Rachel Emerson, and Logan Galton–McCaffrey; two great grandchildren, Ryker Stanton and Lincoln Stanton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by six brothers, Roger Mitchell, Jerry Mitchell, Norbert Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Ernie Mitchell and Larry Mitchell; four sisters, Judy Mitchell, Sherry McGinnis, Darlene Marble, and Carolyne Gruber, and her two beloved canine companions, Parker and Harley.
Marcia had a “big heart” that was on full display to her family and was extended freely to those around her. A large portion of that heart was solely dedicated to her grandchildren, who were “her world”. A favorite memory of her daughter Belinda were the many day trips together and for her daughter Becky the extended visits to her house and spending late nights together. Her husband treasures the memory they had together with the birth of their two children. For Marcia, home is where the heart is.
Speaking of home, Marcia loved cooking, especially for the large family gatherings. Family cookouts were a must for Marcia, who liked to keep people well fed, or in her words, “nobody goes away hungry”. She also was fond of crocheting, making gifts to be shared or given away.
In her younger years, Marcia enjoyed dancing with her husband Jim at local country events and singing with that great voice of hers to the classics of Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride and Elvis. She enjoyed watching “I Love Lucy”, old musicals, and Turner classics.
Marcia and James delighted in going places together, Marcia was fond of the trips to casinos for the bright lights and thrilling noises. She found that same excitement at flea markets as well. During their travels she would try to coax her husband into touring the latest “dream home” sitting on the lot.
There will be no prior visitation. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, (May 20) at 1 p.m. at 151 O’Donnell Road, Genesee Pa. 16923. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover.
Memorial contributions in Marcia’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or stjude.org. © 2022 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
