Sharon N. Thorp

November 11, 1942 - July 16, 2022

ANDOVER – Sharon N. Thorp, 79, passed away on Saturday (July 16, 2022) at Hart Comfort House of Allegany County following a brave fight with cancer.

Mrs. Thorp was born in Warsaw on November 11, 1942 to Robert L. and Leona D. (Mack) Wilson. Sharon was a 1960 graduate of Wellsville Central School. On August 11, 1962, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Wellsville, she married the love of her life, Glenn D. Thorp, who survives.

Along with nurturing her children, Sharon worked outside the home. At Burrow’s Furniture in Wellsville, she worked as administrative support. She also worked at Storms Advertising and Rochester Germicide in Rochester. She worked for a few years at Giant Foods in Wellsville in the bakery. After that, she went to Northern Lights Candles where she began as a candle maker. When she retired from there in 2001, she filled the position of OSHA Representative. She then joined her husband Glenn in their new adventure together as owners of Rockburgers Restaurant in Andover.

Along with her husband of 59 years, Sharon is survived by four children, Glenn K. (Suzanne) Thorp of Andover, Shari A. (Christian) Lamb of Clermont, Fla., Brian R. (Christine) Thorp of Ramsey, N. J., and Coleen L. (Jonathan) Perkins of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, Robert (Gail) Wilson of Wellsville, seven grandchildren, Nicolas K. Thorp of Wellsville, Thomas E. Thorp of Andover, Holly K. Baker (Cynthia Stephens) of Corning, Tyler A. Lamb of Orlando, Fla., Amanda R. Thorp and Jakob A. Thorp, both of Ramsey, N. J., Taylor M. (Nicholas) King of Valdosta, Ga.; one great grandson, Rhiver M. King; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Wanda Lynch and Sharon Cole and one brother-in-law, Donald Thorp.

Sharon was a mild-mannered woman who enjoyed animals, especially dogs. She couldn’t bring herself to even squash a spider. She enjoyed reading, especially romance novels. Jigsaw puzzles were a passion for her, with many or her finished projects adorning the walls of Rockburgers. Sharon also was a game show enthusiast and enjoyed her soap operas.

Sharon loved her family and worked diligently making memories with them. When her two sons were touring the East coast performing with their band, Ice Water Mansion, with their dad (aka her husband) driving the bus, she actively followed their successes on the road. For her husband’s fiftieth birthday, she and the rest of the family surprised him with a birthday bash at Rockburgers in Myrtle Beach, S.C., one of the stops on the tour.

Another favorite memory for the family was the annual two-month trip to Florida, where they delivered and sold Christmas trees. Sharon home schooled the kids for those months, which always included a trip to Disney World.

There will be a time of visitation on Thursday (July 21) from 6-8 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Andover with Rev. Christian Mattison, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be made to Hart Comfort House of Allegany County, 141 East State St., Wellsville, NY 14895 or to SPCA Serving Allegany County, PO Box 381, Wellsville, NY 14895. © 2022 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
