Daniel Dale Hadley

November 19, 1954 - May 11, 2023

AMITY– Daniel Dale Hadley, 69, passed away Thursday (May 11, 2023) at his home following a brief illness.

Daniel was born on November 19, 1954 in Erie, Pa., to William J. Devine and Jeanette L. Griffin. At an early age Dan went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Hadley, who raised him as their only child.

Dan spent much of his working career as a laborer for various local businesses.

Daniel is survived by his four siblings, Kathleen Fuller, Kristine Bennett, Cheerie Beeman and Emma Proctor; a special cousin, Louise Yukon; his special friend and companion Pamela Trebik; caregivers and friends, John and JoAnne Gant and their children Elisabeth, KayAnne, Shawn, and Rebekah; his neighbor, Jonathan Phipps; and landlords William and Alisha LaForge.

In attrition to both his parents and adopted parents, he was predeceased by a sister Marlene Smith and two brothers William Weidner and Jeffery Devine.

Despite difficult and painful circumstances early in life, Dan overcame them and developed into a kind and loving man that cherished his family and friends. In his later years, he was reunited with his birth siblings and maintained contact with them over the years. He developed a close personal relationship with his brother Jeff. Dan welcomed anyone who wanted to sit for a while and visit.

Dan moved to Allegany County in 2011 through another set of difficult circumstances. In many ways, it was a starting over with new friends and neighbors. He relished the role of babysitter for Ty’Smith, the toddler of one of his new friends and took him for walks and frequent tours of the Belmont Fire Hall. He became close to his landlords that enabled him to have a home of his own.

A memorial service will be held for Daniel at the Scio Town Park on Saturday (May 27) at 2:30 p.m. followed by a dish to pass in his memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio.

Memorial contributions in Daniel’s name may be made to the Allegany County Office of the Aging, 6085 State Route 19 North, Belmont, NY 14813. © 2023 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
