Joan M. Wallace

February 8, 1938 - September 7, 2024

ANDOVER – Joan Marie Wallace, 86, passed away on Saturday (September 7, 2024) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Joan was born on February 8, 1938 in Wellsville to Cecil Frank and Frances Matilda (Johnson) Clark. She was a 1956 graduate of Andover Central School. On August 24, 1957 at the Independence Church, she married her life-long love, Charles C. Wallace, who survives.

While her children were home, Joan devoted her life to their care. Later she worked as a medical insurance billing specialist for Andover Medical Center and Wellsville Chiropractic Clinic. Joan also worked at Central Tractor in the office for many years.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Joan is survived by her children, Robert (Suzanne) Wallace of Canandaigua, Cynthia Wallace Dempsey of Wellsville, Debra Wallace of Andover, David (DeeDee) Wallace of Andover, William (Kris) Wallace of Shinglehouse, Pa.; siblings, Jack (Glenna) Clark of Andover, Carole Roth of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Larry (Wanda) Clark of Andover and Sylvia Lehman of Wellsville; ten grandchildren, Jonathan Wallace, Natalie Wallace, Jennifer Dempsey, Bradley Baldwin, Becky (Bill) Fish, Bethany (Mark) Burger, Chelsea (Matt) Burdick, Kaitlyn Wallace, Eric (Abby) Wallace and Paul (Phylicia) Wallace; 12 great grandchildren, Dylan Haskins, Alivia Fish, Hayden Fish, Liam Burger, Max Burger, Bella Arias, Patrick Shea, Myles Shea, Max Wallace, Mazey Wallace, Lyla Burdick, and Evelyn Wallace; four in-laws, Nellie Clark, Cheryl Clark, Garth Hulin, and Marsha Clark; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan was predeceased by several siblings, Richard Clark, Barbara (Dorr) Olds, Blair Clark, Pauline Hulin, and Dale Clark.

Joan was a Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts while her children were involved in these organizations. She worked along with Charlie in delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also a companion to him to his Lion’s Club events especially the wrapping party for the community Christmas gifts.

She loved hosting the family get togethers and took great pleasure in cooking hearty meals for her family. She also spent a great deal of time crocheting and often gave her creations as gifts to family and friends.

Joan was a wonderful, loving grandmother. She dearly loved all the grands. She was great to remember every birthday and occasion and made sure that for every Christmas they all received a card with a $20 bill inside.

There will be a time of visitation on Thursday (September 12) at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Immediately following the visitation, Joan’s funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery in Independence. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com
