Shirley J. Briggs

HORNELL – Shirley J. Briggs, 86, passed away on Monday (August 22, 2022) at St. James Hospital,

following a brief illness.

Mrs. Briggs was born on May 2, 1936 in Andover to Roscoe N. and Reda M. (Feenaughty) Tidd. On December 12, 1953 on Rochambeau Avenue in Andover, she married Paul L. Briggs, who survives.

Shirley worked as a waitress at Ernie Ida and Brunswick’s in Wellsville. Later, Shirley worked at the Cuba Cookie Factory from 1996 to 2002.

Along with her husband, Shirley is survived by a daughter, Sheila M. Corn of Gettysburg, Pa; four sons Gary L. (Cheryl) Briggs of Andover, Jeffery E. (Karen) of North Carolina, Wayne Briggs of Gettysburg, Pa., and Terry (Connie) Briggs of Wellsville; a sister, Beatrice Allen of Andover; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Briggs and a son-in-law, Roger M. Corn.

Shirley enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and crocheting. She had a fondness for sewing quilts and loved to give them away to her family.

There will be a graveside ceremony on Wednesday (August 24) at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Andover with Rev. Christian Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church officiating.   1. My dearest Dad Briggs, Sheila and family! First of all, my deepest sympathy to you all. I feel blessed to have had the time I spent with Mom Briggs. She always made me smile and kept me on my toes! I treasure the times we had together, as few as they were, it feels like forever! Happy you are at last free of pain and discomfort! Until we meet again, keep heaven interesting! Love you forever?
