Ann Irene Johnson

November 10, 1936 - April 30, 2023

WELLSVILLE – Ann Irene Johnson, 86, passed away on Sunday (April 30, 2023) at Elderwood at Hornell following a brief illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born on November 10, 1936 in Harrison, Pa. to Walter and Sarah I. (Stevenson) Hurlburt. Ann attended Andover Central School. On April 18, 1953 in Charlottesville, Va. she married Robert E. Johnson, Sr., who predeceased her on December 16, 2019.

Ann worked at Ames Department Store for 21 years as a cashier and service desk associate, retiring in 1991.

Ann is survived by her four children, Robert E. Johnson, Jr. and Ronald O. (Laurie) Johnson, both of Wellsville, Rebecca A. (Kevin) Greek of Clymer, Pa. and Rosa M. (Sam Carter) Norman of Andover; a sister-in-law Bea Hurlburt of Andover; 11 grandchildren Michael Johnson, James (Devin) Johnson, Kim (John) Foster, Jess (Brandon) Gallagher, Ivy (Tracy McGraw) Johnson, Max Johnson, Dave Slawson, Sabrina (Mike) Torrance, Margo McDowell, Ronald (Heather) Bair and Robert Bair; 28 great grandchildren with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, she was predeceased by an infant son, Eugene Allen Johnson; five brothers, Edward Hurlburt, Harold Hurlburt, Lloyd Hurlburt, Walter James Hurlburt, and Lawrence Hurlburt; and two sisters, Delores Baker and Bernice Pendleton.

Ann enjoyed going on outings with her husband, Robert. They liked camping with friends in Whitesville, playing cards, and going to car shows. She also loved going with her husband to the CB Jamboree Country Shows in Addison and the day trips to casinos, especially in Cuba.

Ann was an avid Buffalo Bill fan. She liked doting on her dogs, Whimper and Fifi and her parrot Broody. They were quite spoiled.

Some of Ann’s most treasured memories were the times spent with her grandchildren. She loved having them around and always had a house stocked full of candy. She frequently scrolled Facebook to keep up with them and enjoyed the many pictures and funny jokes they shared with her.

There will be a combined graveside service for Ann and her husband, Robert on Saturday, (June 17) at 3:00 p.m. at Mills Cemetery in Mills, Pa. with her niece, Deb Nelson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Wellsville/Scio. © 2023 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
